Overview

AI-generated overview

ToolSocket gives an assistant a searchable catalog of 660+ paid data tools for social platforms, open data, weather, FX and crypto, run through four meta-tools.

What you can do
  • Search the catalog in plain language, with price and live health shown
  • Inspect a tool's description, input schema and example before running it
  • Run a tool and fetch the output, or poll a run id when it takes longer than 30 seconds
  • Query social platform data such as TikTok, Douyin, Instagram, YouTube, X, Reddit, Weibo, Bilibili, Zhihu, Kuaishou, Threads and LinkedIn
  • Query open data such as GitHub, Wikipedia, weather, FX and crypto
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs social-media or public data from many platforms without separate accounts on each, and when per-call billing with a prepaid balance suits the workload better than subscriptions.
Requirements
Remote MCP endpoint at toolsocket.top/mcp, or the npm package toolsocket run as a local stdio bridge via npx. OAuth sign-in or an API key in TOOLSOCKET_API_KEY (or an Authorization Bearer header). A prepaid balance is needed for paid calls; TOOLSOCKET_URL can point the CLI at another server.
Before you install
Calls spend money from a prepaid balance, mostly about $0.0015 per social-platform call, so set daily and per-key spend limits in the Console. The API key is a billable secret; the CLI stores it in a config file on disk. Queries and inputs are sent to a third-party server, which also handles platform data on your behalf.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open ToolSocket in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.satashili%2Ftoolsocket/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

README

ToolSocket

660+ data tools for AI agents. One API key. Pay per call.

ToolSocket is a remote MCP server plus a REST API. Your agent searches the catalog, inspects a tool's schema, and runs it. Every call is paid from one prepaid balance. You don't need an account with each platform, and there's no subscription.

This repository is the open-source CLI and stdio MCP bridge. The server lives at https://toolsocket.top.

Connect your agent (no install needed)

The MCP endpoint is:

https://toolsocket.top/mcp
ClientHow
Claude.ai / Claude DesktopSettings → Connectors → Add custom connector → paste the URL → sign in → Allow
ChatGPTSettings → Apps & Connectors → Developer mode → Create → paste the URL, auth OAuth
Claude Codeclaude mcp add --transport http toolsocket https://toolsocket.top/mcp, then /mcp → Authenticate
Cursor / VS Code / Windsurf / Codexcopy-paste configs at toolsocket.top/docs

OAuth clients only need a sign-in. Clients that take headers can use an API key from the Console instead: Authorization: Bearer ts_live_….

CLI

bash
npx -y toolsocket login # paste a ts_live_ key from toolsocket.top/consolenpx -y toolsocket discover "douyin hot search"npx -y toolsocket inspect openmeteo#forecastnpx -y toolsocket run openmeteo#forecast -i city=Tokyo -i days=2npx -y toolsocket balance

Or install it globally with npm i -g toolsocket.

Command
login [--key …]Save your API key to ~/.config/toolsocket/config.json (mode 600)
discover <query> [-n 10]Plain-language search, in English or 中文
inspect <tool>Description, input schema, example
run <tool> [-i k=v]…Run a tool. -i takes k=v, '{"json":true}' or @file.json
get <run_id>Fetch a run that is still in progress
balanceBalance and today's spend
mcpstdio ⇄ remote MCP bridge (see below)
logoutForget the saved key

Add --json to any command to get machine-readable output. Exit codes: 0 ok, 1 error, 2 the run failed, 3 balance too low.

Environment variables: TOOLSOCKET_API_KEY overrides the saved key. TOOLSOCKET_URL points the CLI at another server.

stdio MCP bridge

Some clients can only launch a local command (Cline, Zed, older Claude Desktop configs). For those, add:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "toolsocket": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "toolsocket", "mcp"],      "env": { "TOOLSOCKET_API_KEY": "ts_live_…" }    }  }}

The four MCP tools

Your agent sees four meta-tools, not 660 tool definitions, so its context stays small:

ToolDoes
discover_tools(query, limit?)Ranked search with price and live health
inspect_tool(tool)Full description, input JSON Schema, example
run_tool(tool, input)Runs the tool; waits up to 30 s, otherwise returns a run id
get_run(run_id)Status and output of a run

Pricing

  • Social-platform data costs mostly $0.0015 per call. Open-data tools are free.
  • Each tool shows its price before you run it.
  • Upstream errors and timeouts are refunded automatically.
  • You can set daily and per-key spend limits in the Console.

Development

The CLI has zero dependencies and is a single file: bin/toolsocket.js.

bash
node bin/toolsocket.js --helpTOOLSOCKET_URL=http://127.0.0.1:8091 node bin/toolsocket.js discover weather
