Overview

AI-generated overview

A local MCP server that lets an assistant generate and edit video with Runway's models, including text-to-video, image-to-video and 4K upscaling.

What you can do
Generate video from text prompts using Runway's Gen-4 and Veo 3 models, per the description. Create video from a starting image. Edit existing footage with Aleph editing. Upscale output to 4K. The manifest lists no individual tools, so exact parameters are not documented here.
When to use it
Worth adding when you want an assistant to produce short AI-generated video clips or upscale existing footage from a chat session, rather than working inside Runway's own web interface.
Requirements
Runs as a local process on the user's machine, installed from the PyPI package runway-mcp-server, so a Python environment is needed. Requires a Runway API key supplied through the RUNWAY_API_KEY environment variable, obtained from Runway's developer site. Desktop only; no web-hosted version.
Before you install
The server needs a Runway API key, a billable credential; generation and upscaling on Runway's service may consume paid credits. Prompts and any source images or video you supply are sent to Runway's servers. Review Runway's terms and pricing before use.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Runway AI Video Generation in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

Score

25% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.

  • Tools listed15 pts

Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
