Help agents automatically write and test stories for your UI components.
Overview
Storybook addon that exposes an MCP server so AI agents can write and test stories for your UI components.
- What you can do
- Help agents write stories for UI components
- Help agents test stories in a Storybook project
- Serve these capabilities over an MCP endpoint inside the running Storybook dev server
- Expose the endpoint at a configurable URL pathname instead of the default /mcp
- When to use it
- Use it when you work in a Storybook project and want an AI assistant to draft and verify stories for your components as part of the UI development workflow.
- Requirements
- A local Storybook project with the addon installed as an npm package and its dev server running; the MCP server is reached over streamable HTTP at the addon's endpoint path, /mcp by default. No authentication, environment variables or headers are declared.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Storybook MCP Addon in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

See documentation for installation instructions, usage examples, APIs, and more.
Configuration
By default, the addon exposes its MCP server at /mcp. You can configure a
different literal endpoint path in .storybook/main.ts:
The endpoint must be a URL pathname such as /custom-mcp or /tools/mcp.

Score
50% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
- Tools listed15 pts
Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
