Browse, search, and discover MCP servers from your AI assistant
Overview
Lets an assistant search, browse, and inspect MCP servers from a local snapshot of the official MCP registry.
- What you can do
- Provides tools to search MCP servers with filters such as query, transport, registry type, tag, and sort order, and to fetch full details for a specific server. It can also return ready-made install configurations for Claude Desktop, Cursor, opencode, or a generic client, list trending servers by GitHub stars and recent activity, show registry statistics, and list all tags with server counts.
- When to use it
- Useful when you want to find, compare, or get setup instructions for MCP servers without leaving the assistant. It fits discovery and evaluation workflows, such as checking what exists for a given tag or transport before installing something.
- Requirements
- Runs locally as a Python package (pypi mcp-advisor) over stdio, typically launched with uvx or pip install. No account, API key, or environment variable is declared. It uses a bundled static snapshot of the official MCP registry; a custom snapshot source can be pointed at a URL or local directory.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open MCP Advisor in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.
README
MCP Advisor
An MCP server that lets your AI assistant browse, search, and discover MCP servers from the MCP Advisor registry.
The registry data is a static snapshot of the official MCP registry, refreshed regularly and published to the web. All search and lookup runs locally in the package — there is no account, no tracking, and no backend to depend on.

Score
50% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
- Tools listed15 pts
Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
