Overview

AI-generated overview

Checks whether an MCP server is ready for MCP directories and, for a fee, submits it to eligible directories on the owner's behalf.

What you can do
  • Discover directories and run free anonymous diagnostics on a public GitHub repository
  • Create an account, import a repository and answer the missing profile questions
  • Check launch coverage and run read-only preflight reports of destinations, blockers and payloads
  • Prepare repository patches and open a pull request after owner approval of the exact diff
  • Create unpaid launch drafts, read payment instructions and start a checkout for the service fee
  • Track launches, orders, publisher and form tasks, connections and service cases
When to use it
Useful for MCP server authors who want to know which directories their server qualifies for and who want the submissions handled for them. Also handy for a free readiness check of a public repository before deciding whether to pay for the managed service.
Requirements
Works as a remote Streamable HTTP endpoint, or locally via npx with Node 20 or newer. Discovery and check tools need no key; account tools need an API key from create_account, passed as MCP_SERVER_LIST_API_KEY or an Authorization Bearer header. Owner credentials for provider connections are uploaded separately over HTTPS, not through chat.
Before you install
The managed submission costs money: the instructions quote a $49 launch fee while the README mentions $99, so confirm the amount before authorizing. Tools create branches and pull requests in your repository, and payment triggers automatic submissions. Directory approval is not guaranteed. Never put third-party secrets in chat or tool arguments; use the separate credential upload path.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Mcpserverlist Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.sudomichael%2Fmcpserverlist-mcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

mcpserverlist-mcp

Stdio MCP server for MCP Server List. It connects to the hosted service at https://mcpserverlist.io/mcp and passes tools through unchanged, so any stdio-only client or directory can use it.

What MCP Server List does

It helps MCP server authors get their server listed in MCP directories. It checks whether your server is ready to submit, and offers a $99 managed submission service that handles the submissions for you.

Install

Run with npx -y mcpserverlist-mcp (Node 20 or newer).

Claude Desktop (claude_desktop_config.json), Cursor (~/.cursor/mcp.json):

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "mcpserverlist": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "mcpserverlist-mcp"]    }  }}

Claude Code:

sh
claude mcp add mcpserverlist -- npx -y mcpserverlist-mcp

To use an API key, add "env": { "MCP_SERVER_LIST_API_KEY": "..." } to the config above, or pass -e MCP_SERVER_LIST_API_KEY=... to claude mcp add.

Direct remote (no install)

Clients that support Streamable HTTP can connect straight to the hosted server:

sh
claude mcp add --transport http mcpserverlist https://mcpserverlist.io/mcp

Or in a JSON config, { "mcpServers": { "mcpserverlist": { "url": "https://mcpserverlist.io/mcp" } } }.

Environment variables

VariableRequiredDescription
MCP_SERVER_LIST_API_KEYNoSent as Authorization: Bearer <key>. Only sent when set.
MCP_SERVER_LIST_URLNoRemote endpoint. Default https://mcpserverlist.io/mcp.

Anonymous vs. API key

Discovery and check tools work without a key. Tools that act on your account (your servers, submissions) need an API key, which you get by calling the create_account tool. Use tools/list for the current set.

Behavior

  • Connects to the remote at startup. If that fails, it prints an error to stderr and exits non-zero. Stdout carries only MCP protocol traffic.
  • Forwards tools/list and tools/call unchanged. Resources and prompts are forwarded only if the remote advertises them. The remote's server instructions are mirrored.
  • If the connection to the remote drops, a request reconnects and retries once.

Development

sh
npm installnpm test # builds, then runs tests against an in-process fake remote

list_directories

Discover destinations

Anonymous catalog with source references and requirements. Discovery does not establish purchase eligibility; run a full authenticated preflight.

Takes no parameters.

check_repository

Check MCP readiness

Anonymous free diagnostic for a public GitHub repository. This is not the per-destination purchase preflight.

Parametersmanifestrepository_urlrequired

create_account

Create account

Anonymous signup returns a new account API key once. Save it securely; email is not an access or recovery credential.

Parametersnamerequiredemail

get_account

Get account and availability

Requires API key. Read account and configured billing/execution availability. Generic launch credits are not sold.

Takes no parameters.

connection_instructions

Connect owner credentials securely

Read-only instructions for direct HTTPS credential upload. Never put third-party secrets in chat or MCP tool arguments.

Takes no parameters.

list_connections

List connection metadata

Requires API key. Returns owned connection IDs, providers, expiry and revocation metadata. Never returns plaintext or ciphertext.

Takes no parameters.

revoke_connection

Revoke an owner connection

Requires explicit owner authorization. Revoking a connection prevents jobs using it from completing until reconnected.

Parametersconnection_idrequiredconfirm_revokerequired

list_servers

List your MCP profiles

Requires API key; returns only your saved profiles.

Takes no parameters.

create_server

Save MCP profile

Requires API key. Save accurate public profile fields before checking all selected destination prerequisites. Smithery currently needs a public unauthenticated Streamable HTTP endpoint and owned namespace/server name.

check_launch_coverage

Automatically check launch coverage

Check all implemented destinations with read-only provider requests, remove blocked destinations and preserve prerequisites. Destinations whose topic or eligibility does not fit this server come back as state not_applicable (not a failure; reasons say how to set directory_categories if it fits). Saves the exact final report. At least one qualifying new submission required to launch; no charge or upstream writes.

Parametersintake_idrequired
