MCP server for The Movie Database (TMDB) API
Overview
A local MCP server that gives an assistant access to The Movie Database (TMDB) to search and explore movies, TV shows and people.
- What you can do
- Search movies, TV shows and people by title or name, and fetch detailed records such as budget, revenue, runtime, seasons, networks and biographies. Discover titles with filters for genre, language, year range, rating and sorting. Get cast and crew credits for movies and TV shows. Get recommendations based on a specific movie or show. List daily or weekly trending movies, TV shows or people.
- When to use it
- Useful when you want an assistant to answer questions about films, series and entertainment professionals, or to build filtered discovery lists and recommendations from TMDB data.
- Requirements
- Runs locally over stdio as an npm package (Node.js 18 or higher), typically launched with npx or installed globally. Requires a TMDB API access token supplied in the TMDB_ACCESS_TOKEN environment variable; the token is free from TMDB. Network access to the TMDB API is needed.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Tmdb Mcp Server in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

Score
50% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
- Tools listed15 pts
Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
