Remote MCP server that lets an assistant look up USGS river gauges and check current flow, gage height and trends for paddling, fishing or riverside trips.
What you can do
Find USGS river and stream gauges by US state and river name, or near a US city or town, returning up to 25 active gauges with distance for city searches.
Get current discharge and gage height for 1 to 10 site numbers, plus the 24-hour trend and how today compares with the same date in past years.
Produce a printable condition sheet as a PDF together with a CSV of readings for a chosen 1 to 7 day window.
When to use it
Useful when planning a paddling, fishing or riverside outing in the United States and you want current river conditions and recent trends before deciding to go.
Requirements
Remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no authentication, environment variables or headers declared. Gauge searches are limited to US locations and site numbers.
Before you install
Read-only lookups of public USGS data; no credentials or write actions are involved. Readings are informational and should not replace official safety or flood warnings.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.theluckystrike%2Friver-levels/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.
Use this when the user wants to find USGS river or stream gauges (site numbers) by US state and river name, or near a US city or town. Returns up to 25 active gauges with current data, with distance for city searches. Does not accept coordinates and does not return readings; use get_river_conditions for flow and gage height.

Get river conditions
Use this when the user wants current river flow (discharge) or gage height at USGS stream gauges, the 24-hour trend, how today compares with the same date in past years, or a printable condition sheet. Takes 1 to 10 USGS site numbers and 1 to 7 days; returns a PDF and a CSV of readings. Readings are provisional. Does not forecast and is not a flood warning; use find_river_gauges first when the site number is unknown.
