Overview

AI-generated overview

ClipSpeed MCP turns video URLs into scored, captioned vertical clips and can download the finished files or schedule posts to social accounts.

What you can do
  • Turn a video URL into a clip job, then poll its status for finished clips with titles, viral scores and video URLs
  • List recent clip jobs and download finished .mp4 files to the local Downloads folder
  • Check remaining credits, plan and trial status
  • Find the fastest-growing recent video in a niche to clip
  • Schedule, list and cancel posts to connected TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, X and LinkedIn accounts
  • Regenerate captions in a different style without re-clipping
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to turn long videos into short vertical clips, save the resulting files locally, or queue finished clips to social platforms. The local package is the choice when you specifically need .mp4 files written to your disk.
Requirements
Local stdio package run via npx, needing Node.js 18 or newer. Requires a ClipSpeed API key in CLIPSPEED_API_KEY (keys look like csai_live_...), obtained from the ClipSpeed dashboard, plus a paid plan or the $1 trial. CLIPSPEED_BASE_URL optionally overrides the API base URL. A hosted remote variant at the same provider uses OAuth instead of a key and exposes a different tool set.
Before you install
The API key is a live account credential: keep it out of version control and rotate it if exposed. Clipping consumes credits (1 credit = 1 minute of source video), and jobs take roughly 10-30 minutes. schedule_post publishes to connected social accounts, and cancel only works while a post is still scheduled. Video URLs and job data are sent to ClipSpeed's servers. Pin the package version as the README advises.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Clipspeed Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.thestockgoatballs%2Fclipspeed-mcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

Create and clip video from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Cline or Windsurf: generate AI videos (Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, MiniMax H3) and images (Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2), build consistent AI influencer characters, swap a character into a clip with its original motion and sound (Morphaze), and turn any video or live stream into scored, captioned, ready-to-post vertical clips.

ClipSpeedAI ships two MCP transports, and they expose different tools:

Hosted (remote)This npm package (local)
Transportstreamable-http at https://api.clipspeed.ai/mcpstdio
AuthOAuth — one click, no API keyCLIPSPEED_API_KEY
Installnonenpx clipspeed-mcp
AI video, images, AI influencers, Morphaze swaps, ad conceptsyes — generate_video, generate_image, create_influencer, morphaze_swap, marketing_concept_video, estimate_cost (credits shown before every paid run)no
Clip a LIVE stream while it airsyes — clip_livestream, check_livestream, extend_livestream, stop_livestreamno
Save .mp4s to your disknoyes — download_clip
Schedule postsvia publish_to_youtubeschedule_post (5 platforms)

Most people want the hosted server — it needs no install, no API key, and it is the only one that can generate AI video and images or clip a stream that is still running. Use this npm package when you specifically need finished files written to your local disk.

Requires a ClipSpeedAI paid plan or the $1 trial. For the npm package, get your key at https://www.clipspeed.ai/dashboard/api-key/ — keys look like csai_live_....

Always pin [email protected]. Pinning keeps a bad publish from silently upgrading your setup.

Install

Claude Desktop (one command)

bash
npx [email protected] install

It prompts for your API key and writes the clipspeed server into your Claude Desktop config for you. You can also pass the key directly:

bash
npx [email protected] install --key csai_live_your_key

Then quit and reopen Claude Desktop.

Claude Code

bash
claude mcp add clipspeed -- npx -y [email protected]export CLIPSPEED_API_KEY=csai_live_your_key

Cursor / Cline / Windsurf

Add this to your MCP servers config (~/.cursor/mcp.json, Cline's MCP settings, or Windsurf's mcp_config.json):

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "clipspeed": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "[email protected]"],      "env": { "CLIPSPEED_API_KEY": "csai_live_your_key" }    }  }}

Hosted (no install, no API key) — recommended

The hosted server authenticates with OAuth, so there is no key to copy and nothing to install:

bash
claude mcp add --transport http clipspeed https://api.clipspeed.ai/mcp

Your client opens a browser once, you approve, and it is connected. In claude.ai or ChatGPT, add it as a custom connector with the same URL.

Hosted tools (10):

ToolDoes
submit_to_clipspeedVideo URL → a clip job.
check_clipsPoll a job → finished clips with viral scores.
clip_livestreamAttach to a stream that is STILL LIVE and cut clips while it airs.
check_livestreamClips produced so far from a live session.
extend_livestreamKeep clipping past the original window.
stop_livestreamEnd the live session.
discover_trendingFastest-growing recent video in a niche.
list_templatesAvailable caption/layout templates.
creator_packTitles, hooks and hashtags for a finished clip.
publish_to_youtubePublish a finished clip to YouTube.

The four livestream tools exist only on the hosted server. If you want to clip a Twitch, Kick or YouTube stream while it is running, use the hosted transport — the npm package cannot do it. Conversely, only the npm package can write .mp4 files to your local disk.

Tools (npm package / local stdio)

These are the tools this package exposes. For the hosted server's tool set — including the four livestream tools — see Hosted above.

ToolDoes
clip_videoVideo URL → a clip job (job_id). Options: aspect_ratio, caption_style, clip_count, platform.
get_clip_statusPoll a job_id → status + finished clips (title, viral_score, duration, video_url).
list_clipsList your recent clip jobs to find a past job_id.
download_clipSave the .mp4 files to ~/Downloads — all clips, or one by clip_index. Skips files > 500MB.
get_usageCredits remaining / total / used this month, plan, trial status.
discover_trendingFind the fastest-growing recent video in a niche to clip. ClipSpeedAI's differentiator.
schedule_postSchedule a finished clip to tiktok / youtube / instagram / x / linkedin.
list_scheduled_postsReview scheduled / posted / failed posts.
cancel_scheduled_postCancel a post that's still scheduled.
restyle_captionsRe-caption a project in a new style without re-clipping.

Caption styles: karaoke (default), hormozi, beasty, fire, youshaei, cinematic, bold. Aspect ratios: 9:16 (default), 1:1, 16:9.

To let ClipSpeedAI publish to your socials, connect each platform in the ClipSpeedAI app first (Scheduler). schedule_post posts under those connections.

The demo prompt

Clip this video into 9:16 shorts with Hormozi captions, then download the top 3 to my Downloads folder: https://youtu.be/…

Claude runs clip_video → polls get_clip_status → download_clip → the .mp4s land in ~/Downloads.

A Claude Skill (SKILL.md) ships with this package — it teaches the outcome-first flow (find → clip → check → download → schedule).

Security

  • Your API key is never logged. It only ever lands in your MCP client's config file (or your shell env).
  • Never commit your key or share it. Rotate it any time at https://www.clipspeed.ai/dashboard/api-key/.
  • Keys are tied to one account, rate-limited per plan, and hashed at rest on ClipSpeedAI's servers.

Tools

10

clip_video

Turn any video URL (YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, Instagram, X, Kick, Vimeo, or a direct link) into scored, captioned, ready-to-post vertical clips. Use this when the user gives you a video and wants shorts. Returns a job_id — poll get_clip_status until it is complete. Jobs typically take 10–30 minutes.

Parametersplatformvideo_urlrequiredclip_countaspect_ratiocaption_style

get_clip_status

Check whether a clip job is done and get the finished clips. Use after clip_video to poll (every 30–60s). When status is "completed" you get a clips[] array with title, viral_score, duration, and video_url for each. Present the top clips by viral_score.

Parametersjob_idrequired

list_clips

List the user's recent clip jobs (most recent first) so you can find a past job_id. Use when the user says things like "show my clips" or "what did I make yesterday". Optionally filter by status.

Parameterslimitstatus

download_clip

Download finished clip files to the user's ~/Downloads folder — the marquee local-disk feature a hosted MCP cannot do. Use after a job is complete when the user wants the actual .mp4 files. Pass clip_index (1-based) to grab one clip, or omit it to download all clips from the job. Files over 500MB are skipped for safety.

Parametersjob_idrequiredclip_index

get_usage

Show the user how many credits they have left and their plan. Use when they ask "how many credits do I have / am I out". 1 credit = 1 minute of source video. Returns credits_remaining, credits_total, credits_used_this_month, plan, and is_trialing.

Takes no parameters.

schedule_post

Schedule a finished clip to publish to the user's connected social accounts (tiktok, youtube, instagram, x, linkedin). Use when the user says "post it" or "schedule this for tomorrow". The user must have connected each platform in the ClipSpeed app first. Pass the clip_id (from get_clip_status) and a platforms array.

Parameterstitlecaptionclip_idrequiredplatformsrequiredscheduled_at

list_scheduled_posts

List the user's scheduled / posted social posts (most recent first). Use to review what is queued, check whether something posted, or find a post_id to cancel. Optionally filter by status or platform.

Parameterslimitstatusplatform

cancel_scheduled_post

Cancel a post that is still scheduled (not yet processing or sent). Use when the user says "cancel that post". Only works while status is "scheduled" — a post already processing/sent cannot be cancelled.

Parameterspost_idrequired

restyle_captions

Regenerate a project's captions in a different style without re-clipping. Use when the user says "make the captions hormozi style" for an existing job. Pass the project_id (the same value as the clip job_id) and a style.
