A local MCP server and CLI that calculates, compares and recommends AI API costs across 29 text, image, video and audio models.

What you can do
List supported models with per-unit pricing across text, image, video and audio types, optionally in a local currency. Calculate the cost of a text model from input and output token counts, including platform fee breakdowns for aggregators. Compare models or direct providers against aggregators and gateways such as OpenRouter, Portkey, LiteLLM and Martian. Get model recommendations from a plain-language need such as fast, cheap coding. Sync the latest pricing data from official provider documentation.
When to use it
Useful when choosing between AI models or providers and you want the assistant to estimate or compare API spend, including gateway and aggregator fees, before committing to a model.
Requirements
Runs as a local process; install the PyPI package aicost-cli with the mcp extra and start it with the aicost mcp command. No accounts, API keys or environment variables are declared. Currency conversion and pricing updates use the network, with an offline fallback for conversion.
Before you install
Cost figures come from bundled or synced pricing data and may not match your actual billed rates; treat them as estimates. The sync command updates pricing from provider documentation over the network. No credentials are requested and no spending or account actions are performed.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open AI-Cost-CLI in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
