Overview

AI-generated overview

Aegis is a local, charter-bound defensive security copilot that lets an assistant scan projects for secrets, obfuscation, dependency, Dockerfile and IaC issues.

What you can do
Scan code and configuration for exposed secrets and obfuscation patterns, with findings constrained by a project charter file (data/mythos.yaml). Check dependency manifests for risky or outdated packages. Review Dockerfiles and infrastructure-as-code files for misconfigurations. Optionally call a cloud LLM advisory path for guidance on findings.
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to run defensive security checks over a local project before committing, shipping or reviewing infrastructure, and you want the scope of those checks governed by a written charter.
Requirements
Runs as a local Python process installed from the aegis-sec PyPI package over stdio. Needs a project root containing data/mythos.yaml, set via AEGIS_HOME or defaulting to the current working directory. ANTHROPIC_API_KEY is optional and only needed for the cloud LLM advise path. Desktop only.
Before you install
The optional ANTHROPIC_API_KEY is a secret; only set it if you intend to use the cloud advisory path, which sends scan context to a third-party LLM. Scan results may surface real secrets or sensitive configuration, so review what gets shared or logged. The server is charter-bound, so behavior depends on the contents of data/mythos.yaml.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Aegis in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.

  • Tools listed15 pts

Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
