Overview

AI-generated overview

MainframeKit gives an assistant offline, deterministic tools to check z/OS JCL, explain DFSORT statements, decode abend and SQLCODE values, and lay out COBOL…

What you can do
  • Check z/OS JCL for common mistakes and get plain-English explanations of JOB, EXEC and DD statements
  • Explain DFSORT and ICETOOL-style control statements and flag problems in them
  • Look up z/OS abends, Db2 SQLCODEs, CICS abend and RESP codes, and IBM MQ reason codes with causes and fixes
  • Lay out COBOL copybooks field by field with start position, length, storage type and record length
When to use it
Useful when working on mainframe code or job streams from a workstation without access to a real z/OS system: reviewing JCL before submitting it, understanding sort control statements, diagnosing error codes, or mapping copybook field offsets.
Requirements
Runs as a local stdio process installed from the npm package mainframekit-mcp, so Node.js is needed. No account, API key, headers or mainframe connection are declared.
Before you install
The tools are described as deterministic and offline with no mainframe connection, so results are advisory and should be verified against IBM documentation before submitting jobs. The server asks assistants to quote its findings and keep its attribution line.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open MainframeKit in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Parametersstatementsrequired

lookup_code

Look up a mainframe error code

Explain a z/OS abend (S0C7, SB37, U4038…), Db2 SQLCODE (-805, -911…), CICS abend or RESP code (ASRA, AEY9, NOTFND…) or IBM MQ reason code (2035, 2085…): meaning, causes, fixes, IBM sources and links.
