Overview

AI-generated overview

Lets an assistant browse, search, and inspect published MCP servers in the official MCP registry, including versions and health.

What you can do
Provides tools to query the official MCP registry: list_servers browses and searches registered servers with pagination, list_server_versions shows all versions of a given server, get_server returns detailed information for a specific server version, and health_check reports whether the registry is reachable. It is a read-only lookup layer over registry metadata, so an assistant can answer questions about what MCP servers exist and what versions they publish.
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to discover MCP servers, compare versions, or check registry status without leaving the chat. Handy for evaluating which server to install next or confirming that a named server and version actually exist.
Requirements
Runs locally over stdio, typically started with npx, so Node.js 18.0.0 or higher is needed. An MCP client that supports stdio servers is required. No accounts, API keys, or environment variables are declared; network access to the registry is implied by the query tools.
Before you install
The server only reads registry metadata, but it contacts the official MCP registry over the network, so queries and any search terms are sent to that third party. Registry content is third-party data and should not be treated as verified or trustworthy on its own.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Mcp Registry Mcp Server in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

README

[npm version] [License: MIT]

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides tools to query the official MCP Registry. This server enables AI assistants and applications to discover, search, and retrieve information about published MCP servers programmatically.

✨ Features

  • 🔍 List Servers: Browse all registered MCP servers with pagination
  • 🔎 Search: Find servers by name with filtering options
  • 📦 Version Management: View all versions of specific servers
  • 📝 Detailed Information: Get comprehensive server details
  • 💚 Health Checks: Monitor registry availability

🚀 Quick Start

[Install in VS Code] [Install in Cursor]

Other Clients

Sample configuration (double check the documentation of your MCP client for exact syntax and file locations):

json
{  "mcp-registry-mcp-server": {    "type": "stdio",    "command": "npx",    "args": ["-y", "mcp-registry-mcp-server"]  }}

📚 How to Use

Once configured, you can ask your AI assistant natural language questions like:

  • "What new MCP servers have recently been released?"
  • "Search for filesystem-related MCP servers"
  • "Show me the latest version of the github-mcp-server"
  • "Get details about the Chrome DevTools MCP server"
  • "Is the MCP registry healthy?"

The AI will automatically use the appropriate registry tools to answer your questions.

Score

50% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
