Overview

AI-generated overview

Read-only remote MCP server exposing free CC BY 4.0 UK and Australian online grocery shelf-price index weeks and UK daily basket price snapshots.

What you can do
  • List published index weeks (vintages) with publication time, revision and base week
  • Read one week of the UK or Australian shelf-price index: index levels, week-on-week change and matched-product counts by retailer and product class
  • List the identifiers (retailer product ids and barcodes) of the UK daily 212-item basket for a given day, with paging
  • Look up posted shelf prices for up to 20 barcodes or retailer product ids: price, was-price, loyalty price, unit price, pack size and stock
  • Read licence, credit form, store setting, published weeks and basket date range, including missing days
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to report how posted online grocery shelf prices moved in a given week, or what a specific UK basket product cost at a retailer on a given day, and to cite the source properly. It is not a source of live prices, product names or prices actually paid.
Requirements
Remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no authentication, environment variables or headers declared. Network access to the hosted endpoint is required.
Before you install
Data is static snapshots, not live or real-time, and may be incomplete or out of date; check the retailer before relying on a price. It covers posted online shelf prices, not prices paid and not a CPI, and holds no product names or brands. Citing requires the credit line each tool returns, and the server points to separate pay-per-event Apify actors for names and current prices beyond the basket.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Yappman Data Supermarket Price Snapshots in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.yappmaniac%2Fgrocery-price-snapshots/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

get_shelf_price_index

Shelf-price index for one week

Returns one published week of the free UK or Australian online shelf-price index (CC BY 4.0): index levels, week-on-week change and matched-product counts by retailer and product class. Use it for "how did posted grocery shelf prices move this week". Not a CPI, not prices paid, no product names. Omit vintage for the latest week; call list_index_vintages for the others.

list_index_vintages

Published weeks of the shelf-price index

Returns the published weeks (vintages) of the free UK or Australian online shelf-price index, newest first, with publication time, revision and base week. Use it before get_shelf_price_index to pick a week. Not for prices.

Parametersmarketrequired

lookup_basket_prices

Daily basket prices by barcode or product id

Returns posted shelf prices from the free UK daily 212-item basket (CC BY 4.0) for up to 20 barcodes (EAN) or retailer product ids, up to one row per retailer for one day: price, was-price, loyalty price, unit price, pack size and stock. Use it for "what did this barcode cost at Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda or Aldi on a day". Each result row lists its barcodes in `ean`. Static snapshot days, not live. Not for name search; only the 212 basket products. Wider data: see about_the_data.

Parametersdateeansproductsretailers

list_basket_products

Product identifiers in the daily basket

Returns the identifiers of the products in the free UK daily 212-item basket (CC BY 4.0): retailer, retailer product id and barcodes (`ean`, empty where the basket holds none, as for Aldi), for one day, sorted, with paging. Use it to find what lookup_basket_prices can look up. No names, brands or prices: pass the ids or barcodes to lookup_basket_prices.

Returns the licence (CC BY 4.0) and credit form, what is not served, the store setting, the published index weeks and the basket date range with its short and missing days. Use it before citing or relying on the other tools.

Takes no parameters.
