Access 30+ bioinformatics tools from 14 databases.
The publisher's own server: Weishengxin — 微生信
Overview
Local MCP server that gives an assistant 30+ tools to query 14 public bioinformatics databases for GWAS, gene, protein, variant and drug research.
- What you can do
- Search and read protein and gene records (UniProt, NCBI Gene, Ensembl, InterPro domains)
- Look up clinical variants and associations (ClinVar, GWAS Catalog, GTEx eQTL, SNP annotation)
- Explore protein interactions and enrichment (STRING networks, pathway/GO enrichment)
- Retrieve structures and pathways (AlphaFold, PDB, KEGG)
- Investigate drug targets and genetic diseases (Open Targets, PharmGKB, OMIM)
- When to use it
- Useful when you want an assistant to pull and cross-reference public genetics and bioinformatics data — checking whether a variant is pathogenic, finding interacting proteins, pathways, structures or drug targets — without leaving the chat.
- Requirements
- Runs locally as a Python package installed with pip (gwas-mcp) and started via python -m gwas_mcp.server; configured in the MCP client, such as Claude Desktop. No API keys or environment variables are declared, but network access to the public database APIs is needed.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open GWAS Bioinformatics MCP Server in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

Score
50% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.

Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
