inboxmcp
io.github.zhlei07v0.2.0Updated Oct 4, 2026
Read-only IMAP email for your AI agent, scoped to the mailboxes you choose, with built-in progress.
Overview
Gives an AI agent read-only access to chosen IMAP mailboxes so it can review new email and decide what matters.
- What it does
- A hosted MCP server that collects new mail from IMAP inboxes you connect and hands each message to your AI agent along with plain-language instructions you save once. Tools cover connection progress and pending counts, leasing and completing batches of new email, listing mailboxes and email events, reading a single message or its context, and recording a notify/digest/silent decision. Access is read-only: it never sends, deletes, moves or marks messages as read, and it does not classify or filter mail itself.
- When to use it
- Use it when you want an assistant to triage incoming mail from one or more IMAP accounts against rules you write, for example skipping verification codes and card alerts while flagging messages a customer is waiting on. It suits clients that support remote MCP with OAuth, and platforms without event triggers need a scheduled task to check for new mail.
- Requirements
- A remote MCP endpoint over Streamable HTTP, reached with OAuth with PKCE and the scopes email:read and consumer-state:write. You need an account on the service, a mailbox added with an app password, and collection turned on. A free plan covers one mailbox; more mailboxes require a paid plan. Your email provider and AI platform may charge separately.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open inboxmcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Other MCP clients
Add this to your client's mcpServers config.

What it does
inboxmcp collects new email from your mailboxes and hands each message to the AI agent you choose, together with plain-language instructions you save once. For example: "skip verification codes and card alerts; flag anything a customer is waiting on."
Your agent decides what matters and whether to notify you. inboxmcp does not classify, rank or filter your mail.
- Read-only IMAP. inboxmcp never sends, deletes or moves messages, and never marks them as read.
- Many providers. There are presets for Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo, Zoho, Fastmail, QQ Mail, NetEase 163/126, Alibaba Mail, Tencent Exmail, Feishu/Lark and others. Any public IMAP server on TLS port 993 also works.
- Scoped access. You authorize each AI connection for specific mailboxes, using OAuth with PKCE, and can revoke it at any time.
- Built-in progress. Each AI connection keeps its own checkpoint inside inboxmcp, so scheduled tasks resume without Notion pages or state files, and messages are not handled twice.
- Encrypted at rest. Mailbox credentials, webhook keys, message bodies and saved preferences are encrypted. Message bodies are kept for 30 days by default.
Connect
- Create an account at app.inboxmcp.ai, add a mailbox with an app password, and turn on collection.
- Add the MCP endpoint in an AI client that supports remote MCP. Sign in, choose the mailboxes, and allow both permissions.
- Optional: in the dashboard, under Let your AI finish setup, copy the setup request for your AI and paste it into that AI.
Platforms
Incoming email does not wake every platform automatically. Where a platform has no event trigger, a scheduled task checks inboxmcp at an interval you choose.
Tools
Email content is treated as untrusted data. The connector passes it to your agent separately from your saved instructions.

Limits
- No POP3, outgoing mail, attachment parsing or full-text search.
- New mail is collected about every 60 seconds. Delivery is not instant, and notifications are sent by your AI platform, not by inboxmcp.
- Mail received before you turn on collection is not imported.
