Overview

AI-generated overview

A remote MCP server that lets an assistant look up UK vehicles by number plate, check MOT status and expiry, and read full MOT test history.

What you can do
Look up a UK registration to get make, model, colour, year, fuel type, age, MOT validity and tax status with due dates, from DVSA, DVLA and HPI data. Check current MOT status, expiry date and days remaining, plus the latest test result, mileage, advisories and defects. Retrieve the full MOT test history with each test's date, result, recorded mileage, advisories and failures, and whether recorded mileage ever decreased between tests.
When to use it
Useful when you need quick answers about a UK car, van or motorbike from its number plate: whether it is taxed, when the MOT expires, or what past tests and mileage records show, for example before buying a used vehicle.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint at motcheck.io; no package, environment variable or header is declared. It only covers UK-registered vehicles.
Before you install
Queries are sent to a third-party service, so the registration plates you look up are shared with it. Results come from DVSA, DVLA and HPI records and may not reflect very recent changes; treat mileage-drop flags as indicators, not proof.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open MOT Check in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.motcheck%2Fmot/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Vehicle lookup

UK-registered vehicles only. From DVSA, DVLA and HPI data. Look up a UK number plate (reg, registration) and get the vehicle's make, model, colour, year, fuel type and age, whether it has a valid MOT and when it expires, and whether it is taxed and when the tax is due. The best first call for any general question about a UK car, van or motorbike: 'what car is wr25vup', 'check this number plate', 'look up this reg', 'is it taxed', 'when is the tax due', 'is it road legal', 'how old is it'.

get_mot_status

MOT status

UK-registered vehicles only. From official DVSA MOT records. When is the MOT due, when does it expire or run out, is it still valid: the current MOT status of a UK car, van or motorbike, its MOT expiry date and days remaining, and the result, mileage, advisories and defects from its most recent MOT test. Status first_mot_not_due means the vehicle is under three years old and has not needed an MOT yet; expiry_date is then the date its first MOT is due. Use for 'when is my MOT due', 'when is the MOT due on wr25vup', 'has my MOT expired', 'when do I need to renew my MOT', 'did it pass its last MOT'.

Parametersregistrationrequired

get_mot_history

MOT history

UK-registered vehicles only. From official DVSA MOT records. Full MOT test history for a UK vehicle: every test with its date, result, recorded mileage, and the advisories, minor defects and failures found. Also reports whether the recorded mileage ever went down between tests, which can indicate clocking or an error. Use for 'why did it fail its MOT', 'what were the advisories', 'show me the MOT history', 'past MOT results', 'mileage history', 'has it been clocked', 'is the mileage consistent'.
