What you can do
Fetch subreddit feeds (hot, new, top, rising) and front-page trending posts from r/popular
Search Reddit posts globally or within a subreddit with boolean keywords and optional since-timestamp polling
Read a single post's full metadata and selftext, plus flattened nested comment trees up to 200 comments
Look up subreddit metadata and public user profiles, submitted posts and comments
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs current Reddit discussion, brand or keyword mention monitoring, or community research without dealing with Reddit OAuth and rate limits.
Requirements
A RedditDataAPI key supplied as the REDDITDATAAPI_KEY environment variable (or an x-api-key header for the hosted endpoint), obtained from the provider's dashboard. Runs locally with npx (Node.js) or against the remote endpoint; network access required.
Before you install
Every call spends credits from a paid balance (roughly $0.0001 per returned item, 2 credits per lookup), so usage costs money and can add up on large comment or post pulls. The API key is a secret and should be kept out of logs and shared configs. Queries and fetched content go to a third-party service.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.redditdataapi%2Fmcp-server/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.
