squidmaps lets an assistant build shareable web maps of places, routes and areas from lists, CSVs or GeoJSON, and hand back a link.
What you can do
Read the map document spec that defines GeoJSON features, styling, popups, title panel and legend
Create a web map of places, routes or areas and get a shareable link, with no code or account
Update an existing map by resending the whole changed document while keeping the same link
Render a preview image of the map, at 1200×630 by default or another size, to check before sharing
When to use it
Use it when someone asks to see places, a route or an area on a map, or wants a map they can send or share as a link, including maps built from a CSV or GeoJSON dataset.
Requirements
A remote endpoint at squidmaps.io over streamable HTTP; no package, account, API key or environment variable is declared. The assistant must call get_map_spec before writing a map document.
Before you install
Maps are created and replaced through the server, and update_map overwrites the whole document rather than patching it. The share link expires one hour after the last change unless the recipient adds the map to a squidmaps account. The id and editToken returned by create_map act as edit credentials and should be kept private.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.squidmaps%2Fsquidmaps/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.
Read this first when someone wants a map: of places, a route or an area, or of data like a CSV or GeoJSON, to look at or to share with a link. It's how squidmaps maps are written: GeoJSON features, how they're styled, and their popups, title panel and legend. Then make the map with create_map.
Takes no parameters.
create_map
Make a shareable map
Make a web map of places, routes or areas, and get a link anyone can open to see it, with no code and no account. Write it as the map document get_map_spec describes. The link works for an hour after the map last changed; opening it, the person can add the map to their squidmaps account to keep it, publish it and share it for good. Returns an id and editToken: keep them, to change this map with update_map rather than making another.

update_map
Change a map
Change a map made with create_map when the person asks for changes, keeping its link: anyone who has the link sees the change, and it keeps working another hour. Send the whole changed map document, not just what changed: it replaces the map. Fails once someone has added the map to their account.

preview_map
Look at a map
A picture of a map made with create_map, as people who open its link see it, to check it before you share the link: where things are, their styles, its title panel and legend. 1200×630 by default, the shape most people see it in. Ask for another size to fit the map's shape: taller (like 800×1000) for a map that runs north to south, wider (like 1000×600) for one that runs east to west. The picture shows what fits on a screen that size, so a larger one shows more of a large map. At most 1,000,000 pixels (width × height).
