Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted YouTube data MCP server that lets an assistant pull transcripts, comments, video metadata, search results, channel feeds and trending videos.

What you can do
  • Extract timed subtitle segments and full plain-text transcripts, including auto-generated and manual tracks in any language
  • Fetch video metadata such as title, description, view and like counts, duration, upload date, tags, chapters and channel details
  • Retrieve top or newest comments with author channel info, upvote and reply counts, and a continuation token for pagination
  • Search videos, Shorts, channels and playlists with filters for type, duration, upload date and sort order
  • Resolve channels by handle, channel ID or vanity URL, and list their uploaded videos or Shorts feeds
  • Fetch currently trending videos by country code and category
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs to read or summarize YouTube content, mine comments, research a channel's output, or feed transcripts into RAG pipelines and analysis without building its own scraping stack.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no local package or runtime. The provider states OAuth or an API key is used, and tool calls are billed to that API key.
Before you install
Each tool call costs 10 credits ($0.001) charged to your API key, so usage spends money; empty results or errors are stated to be free. You must supply an API key or OAuth credential, and the service fetches YouTube data on your behalf.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open YouTube Transcript, Comments & Video Data API MCP Server in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.youtubeapi%2Fmcp-server/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows
