Taskforge
md.taskforgev1.0.0Updated Oct 6, 2026
Local MCP server for tasks and notes in any Markdown folder or Obsidian vault. No account needed.
Overview
A local MCP server that lets an assistant read and write tasks and notes stored as Markdown files in a folder or Obsidian vault.
- What it does
- TaskForge runs on the user's machine and works against a Markdown folder or Obsidian vault, giving the assistant access to the tasks and notes kept there. The registry description says it is a local MCP server for tasks and notes in any Markdown folder or Obsidian vault, and that no account is needed. The manifest does not list individual tools, so the exact set of operations is not documented in the supplied material.
- When to use it
- Worth considering when tasks and notes already live as Markdown files, for example in an Obsidian vault, and the assistant should work with them directly on the local machine. It is not aimed at hosted or shared task services, and it requires a desktop environment.
- Requirements
- Runs as a local process over stdio, installed from the npm package taskforge-md and started with npx, so Node.js is needed. The environment variable TASKFORGE_VAULT is required and must be set to the absolute path of the vault folder the server reads and writes. No account or authentication is declared. Desktop only; not executable in a browser.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Taskforge in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.
README
TaskForge distribution tap
Public distribution repo for the taskforge CLI + MCP server.
It serves two roles:
- Homebrew tap —
Formula/taskforge.rb. Install:brew install azhard/tap/taskforge - Release host — GitHub Releases here hold the cross-compiled binaries,
the per-platform
.mcpbbundles, andSHA256SUMS.
Both are published from the source repo's local release script
(scripts/release/publish-cli.sh) — there is no CI in this repo. The formula
and release assets are generated on the maintainer's machine and pushed here
directly.
