Looks up U.S. rail-trails: search by name, state, surface or length, find trails near a point, read trail facts and check closures.
What you can do
Search rail-trails, canal towpaths and greenways by name, state, surface, kind and length, returning page URLs and slugs
Read one trail's facts: length, surface, states, managing organization, official website, year opened, trailheads with parking, restrooms and water, and its sources
Find trails within a radius of a latitude and longitude, nearest first with distance to the closest point
List current trail closures and detours, optionally for one state, with the source notice
When to use it
Useful when planning a ride, walk or outing on U.S. rail-trails and greenways, or when checking whether a specific trail is open or has a posted detour. Also handy for comparing trails by surface, length or location.
Requirements
Remote endpoint at biketherail.org over streamable HTTP; no packages, environment variables or headers declared. No authentication is declared.
Before you install
Read-only lookup tools; no writes or credentials requested. Closure information comes from notices posted by trail managers and agencies, and trails not listed are reported as having no reported closure, so verify conditions with the managing organization before relying on it.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/org.biketherail%2Ftrails/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

One trail's facts (length, surface, states, managing organization, official website, year opened), trailheads with parking, restrooms and water, any current closure, the opening of its "About this trail" article, its numbered sources and its page URL.
