Overview

AI-generated overview

Lets an assistant prepare private Papex research drafts and read public Papex records, using scoped grants and a local delegate key.

What it does
Papex is a local stdio MCP server that connects an assistant to Papex research workspaces. It can prepare private Hypothesis, Discovery and Publication drafts, read selected private-draft context and propose changes, propose supporting artifacts into a private record version, checkpoint a local directory, seal selected local files or a draft fingerprint, and upload an explicitly selected file set into private quarantine. It also reads public Papex records.
When to use it
Worth adding when you already work in Papex and want an assistant to help draft, review, or seal research material without leaving your machine. Each capability is gated by a separate grant, so you can enable only the workflows you need.
Requirements
Runs locally over stdio, typically via npx from the npm package. Desktop only; no web executable. Requires a delegate private key in PAPEX_DELEGATE_PRIVATE_KEY, obtained once from Papex under Workspace then Connections, plus the relevant grant ids for each capability you enable.
Before you install
The delegate private key in PAPEX_DELEGATE_PRIVATE_KEY is a secret and should stay on the machine. Grant ids control what the assistant may do, including reading private-draft context, uploading selected files into private quarantine, checkpointing a local directory, and sealing local files or a draft fingerprint; review each grant before enabling it. No authentication is declared beyond these values.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Papex in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
