A remote MCP server for searching the Video History Project's public catalog of experimental video history, reading records and exporting citations.
What you can do
Describe the collection, its searchable text, filters, citation practices and response limits before starting research. Search public records by words or quoted phrases, browse with an empty query, and filter by author or subject keys, recorded years and record type. Look up exact author or subject filter keys by part of a name. Read a public record by ID or URL, including metadata, source links, citations and paged text sections. Get the site's existing similarity suggestions for a record. Export citations for up to 25 records or URLs in text or RIS format, targeting either the publication or the web page.
When to use it
Useful when researching experimental video history, finding cataloged works, authors or subjects, following source links, or producing formatted citations for a bibliography.
Requirements
A remote endpoint at the Video History Project site over streamable HTTP; no package, account, API key or environment variable is declared.
Before you install
Read-only public catalog access; no credentials or payments are requested. Similarity suggestions are research leads, not evidence of a historical relationship, and excerpts should be checked against the full record before quoting.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/org.videohistoryproject%2Fresearch/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.
Export citations for 1–25 VHP IDs or URLs. format is text or ris; target is publication (the cataloged work) or page (the VHP web page). Missing publication metadata returns a per-item error; choose page to cite a biography or history page.
