Remote MCP server giving assistants UniProt protein data: gene-to-protein mapping, amino-acid sequences and PDB 3D structures.
What you can do
Map a gene symbol in one species to its reviewed protein, with accession, entry name, synonyms, length and a curated function summary
Fetch a protein's amino-acid sequence as plain text and FASTA, by accession or isoform, with length, organism, gene and evidence level
List experimentally solved 3D structures for a protein, best resolution first, with method, resolution and chain coverage plus counts by method
When to use it
Useful for bioinformatics pipelines, coursework and structural biology or drug-discovery questions where an assistant needs to resolve a gene to a protein, pull a sequence for BLAST or alignment, or check whether a crystal structure exists.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no local install or package. An optional Authorization header with a bearer key raises the free daily allowance; a free key is obtained from the provider's key endpoint.
Before you install
The Authorization header carries a secret key; keep it private and send it only to the provider's endpoint. Queries and gene or protein identifiers are sent to a third-party service, and results are limited by a free daily allowance unless a key is supplied.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/uk.co.reliness%2Flife-sciences/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.
Map a gene symbol to its expert-reviewed protein in one species: accession, entry name, protein name, synonyms, length and a short curated function summary. The standard gene-to-protein step for bioinformatics pipelines and coursework (e.g. TP53 to P04637, cellular tumour antigen p53). Source: UniProtKB, UniProt Consortium. Returns the top reviewed match only; species default to human, unreviewed (TrEMBL) entries are not considered. (cost: 1 credit)

protein sequence
Get a protein's amino-acid sequence as plain text and FASTA, ready to paste into BLAST or an alignment tool, with length, organism, gene and evidence level. Give a UniProt accession (P04637) or an isoform (P04637-2). Source: UniProtKB, UniProt Consortium. Returns the canonical sequence UniProt displays; it does not translate DNA, list variants or return gene or mRNA sequences. (cost: 1 credit)

protein 3d structures
List the experimentally solved 3D structures (Protein Data Bank entries) for a protein, best resolution first, with method (X-ray, NMR, cryo-EM), resolution in angstroms and chain coverage, plus counts by method. Answers "is there a crystal structure of X" for structural biology and drug-discovery work. Source: UniProtKB cross-references to the PDB, UniProt Consortium. Experimental structures only; AlphaFold predicted models and ligand details are not included. (cost: 1 credit)

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
