Lifelaw Korean Law (라이프로 법령)

Search the laws of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) in force by keyword (name, promulgation and effective dates). Use this first when you do not know the official law name. Korean abbreviations (근기법, 주임법) are expanded to the official name. An English query searches the official English titles and lists each law's Korean and English names. To ask in a sentence, use search_law_by_question.

Get the text of an article of a Korean law in force, verbatim and unedited from the Ministry of Government Legislation (법제처). The law needs its official name, in Korean or the official English title (e.g. 근로기준법, Labor Standards Act). With lang en (default for an English law name) it gives the official English translation, a notice on whether that translation matches the Korean version in force, and the legally binding Korean original. edition 시행예정 gives the article of a promulgated amendment not yet in force (check whether one exists with get_law_status).

Show a Korean law's effective date in force and whether an amendment has been promulgated but is not yet in force (시행예정). If so, also lists the articles it changes and its addenda (부칙: effective dates, transitional provisions). With an English law name it answers in English and says whether the official English translation matches the version in force.

Get a Korean legal reference value verified by Lifelaw (라이프로), such as the statutory interest rate, minimum wage or lease renewal request period, with its legal basis (article), verification date and start date of effect, labelled in Korean and English. Find keys with list_params.

List the available Korean legal reference values (key, name in Korean and English, unit). Can be filtered by field (key prefix).

Search Korean administrative rules in force (행정규칙: notices 고시, directives 훈령, established rules 예규, guidelines 지침, etc.) by words in the rule name (type, ministry, issue and effective dates). Search terms must be in Korean. Use this first when you do not know the official rule name. Note that administrative rules are internal standards of government agencies, not laws (Acts or Decrees).

Get a Korean administrative rule in force. With only name: an outline (articles, annexes); with article: that article's text; with annex: the annex (별표; tables shown as text line by line). Filter a long annex with keyword or split it with page. article and annex cannot be combined. For a notice (고시) without articles, read the body by page (15,000 characters each) without annex.

Search Korean court precedents (판례) by keyword. Search terms must be in Korean. Precedents are not law: they are reference material, decisions on individual cases. Use the first number of each result (not the case number) as the id for get_case.

Search Korean tax interpretations (advance rulings, replies to inquiries, 예규, etc.) by the National Tax Service (국세청) and the Ministry of Economy and Finance (재정경제부) by words in the title (in the body with body_search), newest first. Search terms must be in Korean. Put a result's document ID (문서ID) into get_tax_interpretation to read it. Without agency, both agencies are searched. Interpretations are not law but reference material.

Get one Korean tax interpretation by the National Tax Service or the Ministry of Economy and Finance from the NTS tax law information system (국세법령정보시스템): summary, body (facts, question, reply) and related laws. id is the document ID (문서ID) from search_tax_interpretation results, or the original link. Read a long document by page (15,000 characters each). An interpretation answers an individual question and is not binding like law.

Get Korean tax basic rulings (기본통칙: the National Tax Service's standards for applying tax law articles) from the NTS tax law information system. With only law: an outline (chapters, item numbers, titles); with item: that item's text; with keyword: items containing that word. Basic rulings are not law. Available laws (15), e.g. 소득세법, 법인세법, 부가가치세법, 상속세 및 증여세법, 국세기본법, 국세징수법, 조세특례제한법, 개별소비세법, 인지세법, 주세법, 지방세법.

Get Korean tax enforcement standards (집행기준: the National Tax Service's compilation of the Act, Decree, basic rulings and interpretations). With only law: item numbers and titles; with item: that item's text (read from the NTS-published PDF); with keyword: items with that word in the title. Enforcement standards are not law. Available: 국세기본법, 국세징수법, 법인세, 국제조세, 종합소득세, 양도소득세, 종합부동산세, 상속증여세, 개별소비세, 인지세, 주세, 주류면허법, 증권거래세, 부가가치세, 조세특례제한법.

Find Korean law articles related to a question asked in a sentence (법제처 intelligent law search). The question must be in Korean, e.g. '전세 보증금을 돌려받지 못하면 어떻게 하나요'. scope 행정규칙 searches the articles of administrative rules (notices 고시, directives 훈령). Less relevant articles may be mixed in, so check the text with get_article.

Compare a Korean law's articles before and after amendment (신구법), or show the Act, Enforcement Decree and Enforcement Rule side by side (3단 비교, three-tier). kind: 신구법 = old/new text of the latest amendment (changed text in 【 】); 3단 위임 = Act articles with the Decree and Rule articles they delegate to; 3단 인용 = lower-level articles citing the Act article. Three-tier output is long, so choose an article. Korean abbreviations work, and an English law name gets an English answer. With 신구법, edition 시행예정 shows what an amendment not yet in force changes.
