What is the Kp index right now? Returns the current planetary Kp (0-9), its storm level (G1-G5 if any) and the 3-hourly values for the last 24 hours (or up to 7 days), from NOAA SWPC. Useful for aurora chasers, radio amateurs and anyone asking whether a geomagnetic storm is under way. It reports observed activity only; use kp_forecast_3day for the coming days. (cost: 1 credit)

Will there be a geomagnetic storm in the next few days? Returns the NOAA SWPC predicted Kp for each 3-hour block over the next 3 days, the daily maximum, the peak block and any G-scale storm expected. For planning aurora trips and checking storm watches. Forecasts are uncertain by hours and 1-2 Kp; observed values are in kp_index_now. (cost: 1 credit)

Can I see the northern (or southern) lights from here right now? Returns the probability of aurora overhead at a latitude and longitude from the NOAA SWPC OVATION model, a 30-90 minute forecast, plus the best chance within 5 degrees poleward (aurora there can show on the horizon). Works worldwide. It does not account for daylight, cloud or moonlight, and is not a multi-day forecast. (cost: 1 credit)

How bad is space weather right now? Returns the current NOAA space weather scales for radio blackouts (R), solar radiation storms (S) and geomagnetic storms (G), the maximum of the past 24 hours, and NOAA SWPC probabilities for the next 3 days. Useful for HF radio users, pilots, drone and GPS users, satellite and grid operators and journalists. It gives levels and probabilities, not impact assessments for a specific system. Is there a solar storm warning? Returns the latest official NOAA SWPC alerts, watches and warnings (geomagnetic storm watches, K-index warnings, flare and proton alerts) with type, headline, issue time and the verbatim message text. Useful for newsrooms and enthusiasts who need the official wording. The feed covers roughly the last few days only. (cost: 1 credit)

Was there a big solar flare today? Lists X-ray flares detected by the GOES satellites in the last 1-7 days, newest first, with class (A, B, C, M, X), begin, peak and end times, peak flux and the NOAA radio blackout level implied, plus the largest flare in the period. From NOAA SWPC. It covers flares only, not CMEs or whether a flare will affect Earth. (cost: 1 credit)

How fast is the solar wind right now? Returns the latest solar wind speed in km/s measured upstream of Earth, from NOAA SWPC, with a plain-language level (slow, moderate, fast, very fast). Aurora chasers use it to judge whether a CME or high-speed stream has arrived. Each answer gives the age of the reading and flags it as stale when it is over 30 minutes old, as the NOAA summary feed sometimes lags by hours. It does not include the magnetic field direction (Bz), which also matters for aurora. (cost: 1 credit)

What is the solar flux index today? Returns the latest daily 10.7 cm solar radio flux (F10.7, in solar flux units), the standard solar activity measure radio amateurs use for HF band conditions, from NOAA SWPC, with a rough HF conditions guide. It is a single daily value; actual propagation also depends on Kp, time of day and season. (cost: 1 credit)
