Overview

AI-generated overview

KeepState lets an assistant start, watch, message and pause durable AI agent sessions that run in microVMs and resume after checkpointing.

What you can do
  • Start, watch, message and pause durable KeepState agent sessions
  • Checkpoint, kill and wake sessions so files, memory and running processes resume intact
  • Run Cruise jobs: draft a goal-and-check manifest, approve it, run it, and check status, logs, spend and verdict
  • Retrieve the accepted artifact of a finished job
  • Check connectivity, token and version, and self-update the client
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to drive long-running coding agents that must survive interruptions, or to run a goal against a repository with a verifiable check and a model ladder, with human approval before anything is accepted.
Requirements
A local process installed via npm (npx @keepstateai/cli), Homebrew or an install script; desktop only. A KeepState account signed in through a browser device flow (ks login), plus network access to the KeepState control plane. No environment variables or headers are declared.
Before you install
Sessions and Cruise jobs run on KeepState's remote fleet, so workspace contents are uploaded to a third party. Cruise jobs spend money: the default ceiling is $2 per job via --spend, and status reports spend. Approvals are meant to involve a person, and jobs that fail every rung wait in a review queue. The client self-updates.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open KeepState in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

README

ks — the KeepState CLI

Durable agent sessions: run an AI agent in a microVM, checkpoint it, kill it, wake it — and it resumes mid-sentence, files, memory, and running processes intact.

This is the thin client. Every verb terminates at the KeepState control plane; the client is a key, the building is keepstate.ai.

Install (any one of three)

sh
curl -fsSL https://keepstate.ai/install.sh | sh
sh
brew install keepstateai/tap/ks
sh
npm install -g @keepstateai/cli

Every path downloads the same public-CI-built binary and verifies its SHA256 against the release's SHA256SUMS before installing. Releases carry GitHub build-provenance attestations.

Three commands to a session

sh
ks login # browser device flowks run # a durable session on the fleetks checkpoint <id> --stop && ks wake <id> # the plug-pull, survived

ks doctor checks connectivity, token, and version. ks update self-updates (checksum-verified; a mismatch is refused).

Cruise

A Cruise job is a goal, a check and a ladder of models. The fleet runs one attempt per rung from an exact save point, verifies the candidate in a verifier the agent cannot reach, and accepts only when the check passes. A failed rung escalates to the next one; after the last rung the job waits in your review queue. Nothing is accepted on a model's word.

sh
ks cruise init --goal "make the inventory tests pass" # drafts .keepstate/cruise.jsonks cruise approve # locks it: .keepstate/cruise.lockks cruise run # uploads the workspace, starts the jobks cruise status # rung, attempts, save points, spend, verdictks cruise artifact <job> # the accepted tarball, sha256-verified

init reads the repository: the check is the test command it finds (pytest, npm test, go test) or the one you name with --tests. A goal with no check is not a job; init stops and says so. It makes no request and never calls a model. approve records the manifest's digest; run refuses a draft that is not approved, a test or workspace changed since approve, and a workspace over 50 MiB (.git and .keepstate excluded). Defaults: 1800 s per attempt and a $2 spend ceiling (--spend); the ladder comes from the model table (ks cruise models, --ladder family:model,...). ks cruise logs, cancel and resume complete the set. Every --help makes no request.

Uninstall (one line)

sh
rm -f $(command -v ks) && rm -rf ~/.config/keepstate

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
