Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted OCRmyPDF service that lets an assistant OCR scanned PDFs, PNGs and JPEGs into searchable PDF/A files and fetch the results.

What you can do
  • Queue a scanned PDF, PNG or JPEG for OCR with OCRmyPDF and Tesseract, supplied as base64 content or a download link, and get back the same document with a searchable text layer, PDF/A by default.
  • Check a queued OCR job and read its status (queued, running, succeeded or failed), with an error message when it fails.
  • Retrieve the finished searchable PDF through a temporary download link to hand to the user.
When to use it
Useful when you need to make scanned documents or images searchable or copyable without running OCR software locally, for example turning a scanned contract or receipt into a text-layer PDF.
Requirements
A remote endpoint at api.pagespool.com over streamable HTTP. An API key sent in the X-API-Key header, or signing in with OAuth instead. Files can be sent as base64 up to 4 MB or as a download link up to 25 MB.
Before you install
Documents are uploaded to a third-party hosted service, so avoid sending confidential files unless that is acceptable. The API key is a secret and should be kept out of shared logs. Download links for finished PDFs expire after 60 minutes.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open OCRmyPDF by pagespool in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.pagespool%2Focrmypdf/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

OCR a scanned PDF or image

Queue a scanned PDF, PNG or JPEG for OCR with OCRmyPDF and Tesseract. The result is the same document with a searchable text layer, as PDF/A by default. Pass the file as base64 in `content_base64` (up to 4 MB) or as a download link in `file` (up to 25 MB), and its name in `filename`. Up to 200 pages; an image is one page. Returns `job_id`, `status`, `pages` and `credits`. Call `get_ocr_result` with the `job_id` until `status` is `succeeded` or `failed`; a job is stopped after 15 minutes. Requires an API key. Costs 2 credits per page, charged now and refunded if the job fails. The result is kept for 7 days.

Check an OCR job

Check an OCR job you queued with `ocr_pdf`. Returns `job_id` and `status` (`queued`, `running`, `succeeded` or `failed`). A succeeded job includes `download_url`, a link to the searchable PDF that works for 60 minutes without an API key: give it to the user. A failed job includes `error` (one sentence) and `code`. Results are deleted 7 days after submission. Requires an API key. Credits: free. This tool is not metered.
