Overview

AI-generated overview

Remote MCP server for inspecting GOV.UK pages, verifying quotations against official sources, and monitoring recorded wording changes.

What you can do
  • Preview live source evidence from a fixed GOV.UK VAT rates page, including URL, content identifier, timestamp, excerpt, SHA-256 digest and quote check
  • Check service status, API version and the nine fixed monitored GOV.UK pages
  • Inspect supported GOV.UK Content API pages and optionally test whether a quoted passage appears
  • Start a free trial and register, list or remove monitored GOV.UK pages
  • Read change briefs, page history and added/removed text between recorded snapshots, plus a cursor-based digest of changes to your own watched pages
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs to cite UK government guidance with traceable source evidence, verify that a quotation really appears on a GOV.UK page, or track whether wording on monitored GOV.UK pages has actually changed over time.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no installation, key or signup for the free preview, status and fixed-page tools. Trial or paid tools need a UKSI API key obtained via the free trial tool, which the server describes as requiring human permission. Network access to the endpoint.
Before you install
Trial and paid tools require an API key and count against daily request quotas; a 30-day pilot is described as a £9 one-off payment. Watch and remove tools change stored monitoring state, and removing a watch may not delete previously stored snapshots. History only begins when monitoring starts, so absence of changes is not proof nothing changed. The server states it gives no legal or factual advice.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open UK Source Intelligence in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/dev.pages.uk-source-intelligence%2Fuk-source-intelligence/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Tools

preview_source_evidence

FREE, NO KEY, NO SIGNUP: Run a real live demonstration against the official GOV.UK VAT rates source. Returns its official URL, government content identifier, source timestamp, fetched text excerpt, a SHA-256 digest and a quote-presence check. Uses one fixed public example; it does NOT claim historical changes or replace UKSI monitored snapshots. For historical change tasks prefer get_govuk_change_brief; this tool only checks current VAT text.

get_govuk_change_brief

FREE, NO KEY: Retrieve an honest compact historical-change brief for one auto-selected fixed GOV.UK page. Returns explicit insufficient_history until UKSI has observed two distinct wording versions; never fabricates revisions. WITH a valid trial/paid UKSI API key: retrieve the brief covering nine fixed pages plus your own monitored GOV.UK pages in one call. Includes observed fingerprints, timestamps and bounded added/removed wording where supported. GOV.UK remains authoritative. A human must approve paid checkout.

Parametersapi_key

service_status

FREE, NO KEY: Check UK Source Intelligence availability, free-trial readiness and API version. For historical change questions use get_govuk_change_brief; for a live source quote use preview_source_evidence.

Takes no parameters.

fixed_monitored_pages

FREE, NO KEY: List the nine GOV.UK pages currently on the fixed monitoring schedule and their actual monitoring/database status. A first snapshot is a baseline, NOT evidence that any change has occurred. For observed wording changes use get_govuk_change_brief; for live current text use preview_source_evidence.

Takes no parameters.

start_free_trial

WITH HUMAN PERMISSION, NO PAYMENT: Obtain one instant 3-day UK Source Intelligence API trial (10 requests per UTC day, one custom monitored GOV.UK page). Choose this after the free source preview when the human needs their own page checked or tracked. Trial is one per client network address and capacity-limited. Key is issued once: save privately, never log or publish it. Do NOT register speculative trials on behalf of anonymous crawlers.

Takes no parameters.

inspect_govuk_page

SOURCE EVIDENCE: With a trial or paid key, inspect a supported canonical GOV.UK Content API page; return documented title, update timestamps and a reproducible source fingerprint, and optionally check whether a quoted passage is present. Useful for assistants citing UK guidance. No legal or factual correctness guarantee; not every GOV.UK page is supported.

Parametersurlrequiredquoteapi_keyprevious_fingerprint

my_watch_changes

TRIAL/PAID KEY: Get one compact chronological digest of wording changes recorded on ONLY your currently watched GOV.UK URLs since your previous saved cursor. Start since=0; save next_cursor and send it next time. Safe idempotent retry: reading never advances cursor. Handles A-to-B-to-A reversions; first baseline is NOT a change. No push alert or automatic trial-to-paid transfer.

Parameterssinceapi_key

list_my_watches

TRIAL/PAID KEY: Show the GOV.UK pages you already monitor, quota and expiry. Counts towards daily requests.

Parametersapi_key

watch_govuk_page

MONITOR CHANGES: Register a supported canonical GOV.UK page for recurring checks and stored snapshots. Three-day free trial allows 1 custom page; £9 one-off 30-day pilot allows 3. Initial baseline is attempted immediately; if unavailable it is queued. First snapshot is not a change event. For a one-call private digest use my_watch_changes and save next_cursor. No guaranteed check interval or push alert.

Parametersurlrequiredapi_key

remove_govuk_watch

TRIAL/PAID KEY: Stop monitoring a page under your key; removing it does not necessarily remove previously stored snapshots.

Parametersurlrequiredapi_key

page_history

CHANGE EVIDENCE: With a trial or paid key, retrieve recorded timestamps and fingerprints for a fixed-monitored page or your own watched GOV.UK page. History starts when monitoring starts; do not invent older revisions.

Parametersurlrequiredapi_key

page_changes

CHANGE EVIDENCE: With a trial or paid key, compare the last two distinct snapshots UKSI actually recorded for an eligible GOV.UK page. Get added/removed text blocks to support a sourced change explanation. If there is only a baseline or no difference, clearly say no demonstrated change.
