Spanish Bible atlas as MCP tools: people, places, events, passages, each linked to its source

Overview

AI-generated overview

Read-only MCP access to a Spanish-language Bible atlas: search people, places, events, reigns, letters, journeys and passages, each linked to its sources.

What it does
Exposes nine read-only tools over the biblical-atlas dataset: search records by Spanish name (accents and case ignored), read a record in full with family relations, offices, coordinates and candidate sites, list events by year, person, place, role, kind or Bible book, ask who was alive, ruling or active in a given year, look up a Bible reference, find the shortest chain of ties between two people, and find places within a radius. Answers include the atlas id, a link to the record's card where one exists, and links to sources. The atlas is in Spanish and names and summaries are returned as-is.
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs structured, sourced answers about biblical people, places, events and chronology, or when you want to resolve Bible references and family or succession links without manual lookup. It is a read-only reference source, not a general search engine.
Requirements
Runs locally over stdio via the npm package biblical-atlas-mcp, requiring Node.js 18 or newer. No account or API key. By default it downloads the atlas's public data file and caches it, refreshing hourly; optional environment variables BIBLICAL_ATLAS_CACHE_DIR, BIBLICAL_ATLAS_DATA_FILE, BIBLICAL_ATLAS_DATA_URL and BIBLICAL_ATLAS_REFRESH control caching, a local data file (no network when set), the data URL and refresh interval.
Before you install
By default the server fetches a data file over the network from the configured BIBLICAL_ATLAS_DATA_URL, so the operator of that URL sees the request; set BIBLICAL_ATLAS_DATA_FILE to use a local copy offline. All tools are read-only, so nothing is written, sent or deleted. The data belongs to a third-party atlas and is served in Spanish.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Biblical Atlas Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

biblical-atlas-mcp is an MCP server that gives AI agents the biblical-atlas Bible atlas as nine read-only tools: people, places, events, reigns, letters, journeys and Bible passages. Answers carry the atlas id, a link to the record's card on the atlas site where the record has one, and links to its sources: a list answer carries the first one and the total, and get_record returns them all. The atlas is in Spanish, and the server returns its names and summaries as they are.

Features

  • Search every record by its Spanish name; accents and case are ignored ("jerusalen" finds Jerusalén).
  • Read one record in full: family and relations in both directions, offices, coordinates and candidate sites, what happened at a place.
  • List events by year or range, person, place, role, kind or Bible book, in date or story order.
  • Ask who was alive, ruling or active in a year, with the evidence for each person.
  • Look up a Bible reference ("Hch 16:1", "Hch 16", "Rut") and get the events, people, places and records that cite it.
  • Find the shortest chain of family ties, succession and companionship between two people.
  • Find places within a radius of a place or a coordinate.
  • Years are signed in both directions: -607 means 607 a.e.c.
  • No database and no atlas data in the package: the server downloads the atlas's public data file, caches it and refreshes it hourly with a conditional request.

Quick start

With Node.js 18 or newer, add the server to Claude Code with claude mcp add biblical-atlas -- npx -y biblical-atlas-mcp, or to any client that starts stdio servers:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "biblical-atlas": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "biblical-atlas-mcp"] }  }}

Then ask "who was alive in 607 a.e.c.?"; the container image for HTTP clients, release binaries and every setting are in Getting started.
