Read-only access to one folder: list directories and read text files inside a root you choose.
Overview
A read-only MCP server that lets an assistant list directories and read text files inside one folder you choose.
- What you can do
- List a directory's contents, with folders marked by a trailing slash
- Read a text file, up to the first 64 KB
- Confine every path, symlinks included, to the configured root folder
- When to use it
- Useful when you want an assistant to consult or summarize files in a specific project or document folder without giving it write access or visibility into the rest of the disk.
- Requirements
- Runs locally over stdio, typically via npx with the npm package proofmark-files, so Node.js is needed. Set the FILES_ROOT environment variable to the folder to expose; it defaults to the working directory. No account or API key.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Proofmark Files in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

A read-only MCP server for one folder.
Tools:
list_dir: list a directory. Folders end with a slash.read_file: read a text file, up to the first 64 KB.
Every path is resolved inside FILES_ROOT (default: the working directory), symlinks included, so nothing outside that folder can be listed or read. The server never writes.

40% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
