A local MCP server that lets an assistant search an index of open-source AI agents by capability, ranked by GitHub traction.

What you can do
Search the agent index by capability or task, such as PDF extraction or crypto trading, and get linkable results ranked by GitHub traction (find_agent). List the most-starred or highest-reputation agents in the index (top_agents). Look up full details for a single agent by its id (agent_details).
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to recommend existing open-source AI agents for a task instead of building one from scratch, or to compare popular agents in a given area.
Requirements
Runs locally over stdio, typically launched with npx, so Node.js and network access are needed. No API key or account. The optional BEACON_REGISTRY_URL variable overrides the default public registry endpoint.
Before you install
Results come from a third-party public registry, so queries are sent to that service; the optional BEACON_REGISTRY_URL setting can redirect them to another endpoint. The server is read-only and involves no payment, but listed agents are third-party projects that should be reviewed before use.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Beacon Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Beacon indexes thousands of open-source AI agents from GitHub, ranked by real traction (stars, activity), searchable by capability. This MCP server puts that index inside Claude Desktop, Cursor, Cline, Windsurf, or any MCP client — so you can ask "find me an agent that does X" and get real, linkable results.

No API key. No payment. Just discovery.

Install

Claude Desktop / Cline / Windsurf — add to your MCP config:
