Nuttle

Query the posts, comment trees and videos you've browsed, saved locally by the Nuttle app.

Overview

AI-generated overview

Lets an assistant query the posts, full comment trees and videos you have browsed, as saved locally by the Nuttle desktop app.

What it does
A small stdio bridge to the Nuttle desktop app's local server, exposing 32 tools. The agent can read a post together with its whole comment tree in one call, wait for new data while you scroll, read raw captures from any site and map fields without code, download media you watched, and run comment-insight jobs whose quotes are checked word for word against the captured comments.
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to work over your own browsed social content — Reddit, X and others — that the Nuttle app has already saved on your computer, for example to summarize threads, mine comments or pull down media you viewed.
Requirements
Runs locally over stdio, typically launched with npx from the npm package nuttle-mcp, so Node.js is needed. The Nuttle desktop app for Windows must be installed and kept open; if it is not running, the server still starts and asks the agent to prompt you to open it. An optional NUTTLE_MCP_URL variable overrides the default upstream address. Clients that speak streamable HTTP can connect directly to the local endpoint.
Before you install
The server reads your locally saved browsing captures and can download media, so an assistant gains access to that personal history; the README states nothing leaves your machine. It is desktop-only and depends on the Nuttle app being open. Review what the comment-insight and download tools do before granting broad use.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Nuttle in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

README

nuttle-mcp

MCP server for Nuttle: lets Claude Desktop and any MCP client that launches local commands query the posts, full comment trees and videos you've browsed (Reddit, X and more), saved on your own computer by the Nuttle desktop app.

It's a small stdio bridge to the app's local server (http://127.0.0.1:8787/mcp). Nothing leaves your machine.

Setup

  1. Install Nuttle for Windows (free) and keep it open.
  2. Add this to your client's MCP config — for Claude Desktop, claude_desktop_config.json:
json
{  "mcpServers": {    "nuttle": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "nuttle-mcp"]    }  }}

If Nuttle isn't running, the server still starts and tells the agent to ask you to open it. Once the app is up, the tools appear on their own.

Clients that speak streamable HTTP (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) can connect to http://127.0.0.1:8787/mcp directly — see the guide.

What the agent can do

32 tools: read a post with its whole comment tree in one call, wait for new data while you scroll, read raw captures from any site and map fields without code, download the media you watched, and run comment-insight jobs whose quotes are checked word for word against the captured comments.

Options

  • NUTTLE_MCP_URL — upstream address, default http://127.0.0.1:8787/mcp.
