Search open-source research papers across arXiv, OpenAlex, Crossref, PubMed, Semantic Scholar.

The publisher's own server: Verified Codes

Overview

AI-generated overview

Searches arXiv, OpenAlex, Crossref, PubMed and Semantic Scholar for scholarly papers and resolves references and citations for an assistant.

What you can do
  • Search scholarly literature across arXiv, OpenAlex, Crossref, PubMed and Semantic Scholar
  • Resolve a single paper by DOI or identifier and return metadata, references and citing works
  • List the available sources with coverage, key requirements and rate limits
  • Read the server's built-in research method and skill playbooks, including error interpretation
  • Check PyPI for newer versions of the package
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs citable academic grounding on a topic, literature reviews, or a paper's reference and citation graph, including paywalled journals whose metadata is public.
Requirements
Runs locally as a Python package (uvx or npx launcher) over stdio, typically in a desktop client. An optional Semantic Scholar API key can be supplied via the FIND_RESEARCH_PAPERS_MCP_S2_API_KEY environment variable; without it, that source may be rate-limited and skipped. Network access to the scholarly indexes is required.
Before you install
The package reports anonymous diagnostic telemetry (command executions, latency, error codes) that can be disabled with DO_NOT_TRACK or MCP_TELEMETRY_OPT_OUT. The README also offers a one-line installer script that pipes remote content into a shell and rewrites client configs; review it before running. Queries are sent to third-party scholarly APIs.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Find Research Papers in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

🔒 Telemetry & Privacy

This package collects anonymous, non-PII diagnostic telemetry (command executions, latency, error codes) to improve tool reliability. No research queries, paper results, personal data, source code, or environment variables are ever collected or stored.

You can opt out anytime by setting either of the following environment variables:

bash
export DO_NOT_TRACK=1# orexport MCP_TELEMETRY_OPT_OUT=1
