Before you install
Requires a RapidAPI key, which is passed on the command line or in configuration; keep it out of shared files. Requests and queries go to the third-party RapidAPI service, and usage is subject to that subscription's plan and quotas. The tools only read news; they do not write or change data.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Fast News MCP in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Fast News MCP Server

Real-time news search, trending headlines, topic categories, and local news — exposed as MCP tools so your AI agent can query news in plain language. No HTTP boilerplate required.

The server is hosted by RapidAPI and connects via mcp-remote. All you need is a RapidAPI subscription and your API key.

Get an API Key

  1. Subscribe on RapidAPI (free tier available)
  2. Your API key appears on the Endpoints tab

Every request needs two headers:

Quick Start

Prerequisites: Node.js (for npx) and a free RapidAPI subscription.
