A remote MCP server that lets an assistant search 1,500+ public APIs, compare them, fetch docs and example code, and broker API listings or sponsorships.
What you can do
Search 1,500+ public APIs by task and get name, description, category and link for each result, with filters for auth and free tier mentioned in the description. Retrieve full details for one API by slug, including documentation summary, endpoints, auth, pricing and links. Get ready-to-run example code in JavaScript, Python or curl, with verified samples flagged. Compare two to five APIs side by side on auth, free tier, HTTPS, pricing and docs. List listing and sponsorship offerings with fixed prices and availability, then open and continue a broker conversation, tracking deal status and payment links.
When to use it
Useful when the assistant needs to find a third-party API or dataset for a task, check an API's auth and pricing before writing integration code, or choose between candidate APIs. Also relevant if you want to list or sponsor an API on PublicAPIs.io.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint at publicapis.io; no package, environment variables or headers are declared. No authentication is declared for the directory tools. The deal tools ask for an API name, website and contact email to start a conversation.
Before you install
The deal tools open a commercial conversation with a broker agent and can lead to paid listing or sponsorship, with a payment link returned at the awaiting_payment stage; treat any payment as a real commitment. Deal tools return a deal_id and deal_key that must be kept to continue. Contact email and API details you supply are sent to PublicAPIs.io. API pricing and auth details come from the directory and should be verified before relying on them.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.publicapis%2Fdirectory/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.
Find a public API or data source for a task: use this whenever the user (or your code) needs an API, dataset or third-party service, e.g. weather, geocoding, payments, sports scores, crypto prices, jobs, LLMs. Searches 1,500+ APIs on PublicAPIs.io and returns name, description, category, link and signals (auth: none/api_key/oauth, free_tier, https). Filter with auth="none" for APIs that need no key, free=true, https=true.
