Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted MCP server that lets an assistant read and add records in a firm's Clio Manage account: matters, contacts, time, tasks, bills and notes.

What you can do
  • Look up matters, contacts and firm users, including custom field values
  • Review time and expense entries, bills and logged communications
  • List tasks, calendar entries, notes and document metadata
  • Create contacts, matters, time entries, tasks, notes, calendar entries and communication logs
  • Update existing tasks and check usage or subscription status
When to use it
Useful for legal teams already on Clio Manage who want to ask questions about open matters, unbilled time, overdue bills or tasks due this week, or have the assistant record time, notes and tasks without switching apps.
Requirements
Remote endpoint added by URL only; no local install. Sign-in is via OAuth with a Clio account, and no API key or Authorization header should be configured. Intended for Clio accounts in the US region. One subscription covers one Clio user in one firm.
Before you install
Write tools create or change Clio records (contacts, matters, time entries, tasks, notes, calendar entries, communication logs), so confirm before running them. The server can do only what the signed-in Clio user may do. Usage is metered: free tier is 50 calls a month, and paid plans are billed through a payment link; cancellation has no refund for the current period. Document access is metadata only, never file contents.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Clio MCP by usefulapi in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.usefulapi%2Fclio/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

Clio MCP by usefulapi

Work with your firm's Clio Manage data from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client — look up matters, contacts, time and expense entries, tasks, calendar entries, bills, document details (names and metadata, never file contents) and notes; create contacts, matters, time entries, tasks, notes and calendar entries and update tasks. It never deletes anything, changes a bill or touches payments or trust accounts. Hosted, no local install: connect with your Clio account over OAuth.

Live endpoint: https://clio.usefulapi.io/mcp · Homepage: https://usefulapi.io/clio

Connect

  • Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste https://clio.usefulapi.io/mcp.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http clio https://clio.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run /mcp to log in.
  • VS Code: Add to VS Code.
  • Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
json
{  "mcpServers": {    "clio": {      "url": "https://clio.usefulapi.io/mcp"    }  }}

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and you sign in with your Clio account.

Step-by-step setup, where to find your credentials, and FAQ: https://usefulapi.io/clio/

On first connect you'll be sent to Clio to sign in and approve access; no API keys to paste. For Clio accounts in the US region. The server can do only what your Clio user is allowed to do. You can revoke the access any time in Clio. One subscription covers one Clio user in one firm.

clio_who_am_i

Who am I

Fetch the Clio user this access token belongs to — name, email, subscription type, time zone and default_calendar_id (needed to create calendar entries). A cheap way to confirm the token and region are right. Clio: GET /users/who_am_i.json.

Parametersfields

clio_list_users
