Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted ipapi.is server that lets an assistant look up IP addresses and AS numbers for ownership, abuse contacts, location and VPN, proxy or Tor flags.

What you can do
  • Look up a single IPv4 or IPv6 address for owner company, network, abuse contact, location and risk flags such as datacenter, VPN, proxy, Tor, abuser, mobile and crawler
  • Look up an autonomous system for organization, registry, type, country and announced routes
  • Bulk-check up to 100 IPs or AS numbers in one request, with results keyed by the entries sent
  • Check monthly usage against the plan quota and record feature requests
  • Upgrade to a paid plan or cancel the subscription
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to judge whether an address is a VPN, proxy, Tor exit or datacenter host, find who owns an IP or AS and where to report abuse, or triage a list of IPs from login logs.
Requirements
Remote endpoint reached over streamable HTTP; no local install. Sign-in uses OAuth, and on first connect you supply your own ipapi.is API key, which the server stores per user. A free plan allows 50 tool calls per month; paid plans raise the limit.
Before you install
Every lookup spends quota, and bulk lookups spend one request per entry, so large lists can exhaust a plan quickly. The server asks for your ipapi.is API key and stores it per user. Upgrade tools return payment links and can start a paid subscription; cancellation runs to the end of the paid period with no refund for the current period. Lookups send the addresses you query to ipapi.is.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open ipapi.is MCP by usefulapi in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.usefulapi%2Fipapi-is/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

ipapi.is MCP by usefulapi

Use your ipapi.is account from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client. Look up IP addresses and AS numbers: owner, abuse contact, location, and VPN, proxy, Tor and datacenter flags. Hosted, no local install: connect with your own credentials.

Live endpoint: https://ipapi-is.usefulapi.io/mcp · Homepage: https://usefulapi.io

Connect

  • Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste https://ipapi-is.usefulapi.io/mcp.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http ipapi-is https://ipapi-is.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run /mcp to log in.
  • VS Code: Add to VS Code.
  • Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
json
{  "mcpServers": {    "ipapi-is": {      "url": "https://ipapi-is.usefulapi.io/mcp"    }  }}

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and the login page asks for your ipapi.is credentials.

Step-by-step setup, where to find your credentials, and FAQ: https://usefulapi.io/ipapi-is/

On first connect you provide your ipapi.is API key (copy it from your ipapi.is dashboard). The server validates it and stores it per user. No keys go in config files.
