Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted ipdata server that lets an assistant look up geolocation, network, company and threat data for IP addresses and ASNs.

What you can do
  • Look up one IP address for location, time zone, currency, carrier, ASN, company and threat fields, optionally limited to chosen fields
  • Get the threat profile of an IP address: Tor, proxy, datacenter, known attacker, blocklists, and reputation scores on higher plans
  • Get the ASN or owning company behind an IP address, and look up details of an autonomous system by AS number
  • Bulk lookup up to 100 IP addresses in one call, with duplicates removed and results in input order
  • Check monthly usage, request a missing feature, and upgrade or cancel the paid subscription
When to use it
Useful when you need to enrich IP addresses with location, ownership or network details, or to check whether an address is a Tor exit node, proxy, datacenter or known threat. Also fits bulk enrichment of address lists within the plan's call quota.
Requirements
Remote MCP endpoint, no local install. Sign-in is by OAuth; on first connect you supply your own ipdata API key from the ipdata dashboard and choose the global or EU endpoint. A free plan allows 50 tool calls per month; paid plans raise the quota.
Before you install
Each lookup consumes the daily or monthly ipdata quota, and a bulk call of 100 addresses counts as 100 requests. The upgrade tool returns Stripe Checkout payment links, so paid plans cost money; cancellation runs to the end of the paid period with no refund for the current period. Your ipdata API key is stored per user by the hosted service, and looked-up addresses are sent to that third party.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open ipdata MCP by usefulapi in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.usefulapi%2Fipdata/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

ipdata MCP by usefulapi

Use your ipdata account from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client. Look up location, network, company and threat data for IP addresses, look up autonomous systems, and check up to 100 IP addresses in one call. Hosted, no local install: connect with your own credentials.

Live endpoint: https://ipdata.usefulapi.io/mcp · Homepage: https://usefulapi.io

Connect

  • Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste https://ipdata.usefulapi.io/mcp.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http ipdata https://ipdata.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run /mcp to log in.
  • VS Code: Add to VS Code.
  • Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
json
{  "mcpServers": {    "ipdata": {      "url": "https://ipdata.usefulapi.io/mcp"    }  }}

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and the login page asks for your ipdata credentials.

Step-by-step setup, where to find your credentials, and FAQ: https://usefulapi.io/ipdata/

On first connect you provide your ipdata API key, found in your ipdata dashboard, and the endpoint: global or EU only. The server validates it and stores it per user. No keys go in config files.

ipdata_lookup_ip

Look up an IP address

Geolocation and network data for one IP address: city, region, country, continent, coordinates, postal code, time zone, currency, languages, mobile carrier, ASN, plus company and threat data where the key's plan includes them. Pass `fields` to get only some of it. The reply also carries `count`, the requests this key made in the last 24 hours. GET /{ip}. Uses 1 request of the key's daily ipdata quota and is never retried.

Parametersiprequiredfields

ipdata_get_threat

Get threat data for an IP address

Threat profile of one IP address: is_tor, is_proxy, is_anonymous, is_datacenter, is_known_attacker, is_known_abuser, is_threat, is_bogon, is_icloud_relay and the blocklists it appears on. Business and Enterprise plans also get is_vpn and reputation scores (vpn, proxy, threat and trust, 0-100). GET /{ip}/threat. Uses 1 request of the key's daily ipdata quota and is never retried.

Parametersiprequired

ipdata_get_asn_for_ip

Get the ASN of an IP address

The autonomous system that announces one IP address: AS number, organisation name, domain, network route and usage type (hosting, isp, edu, gov, mil, business). GET /{ip}/asn. Uses 1 request of the key's daily ipdata quota and is never retried.

Parametersiprequired

ipdata_get_company

Get the company behind an IP address

The end-user organisation that a network is assigned to: name, domain, network prefix and usage type. Needs the ipdata Startup plan or higher. GET /{ip}/company. Uses 1 request of the key's daily ipdata quota and is never retried.

Parametersiprequired

ipdata_lookup_asn

Look up an AS number

Details of one autonomous system: organisation, domain, usage type, IPv4 and IPv6 prefixes, number of IPs, registry, country, allocation date, status, and upstream, downstream and peer AS numbers. GET /AS{number}. Uses 1 request of the key's daily ipdata quota and is never retried.

Parametersasnrequired

ipdata_bulk_lookup

Look up many IP addresses

Look up up to 100 IP addresses in one call (paid ipdata plans only). Duplicates are removed first. Replies are a list in the same order, one entry per address. Each address uses 1 request of the daily quota (100 addresses = 100 requests). Use `fields` to keep the reply small. POST /bulk. The call is never retried.
