Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted Kantata MCP server that lets an assistant read workspaces, tasks and time entries, create and update tasks, and log time.

What you can do
  • Look up the connected user, users and client or partner organizations
  • List and inspect workspaces (projects) with dates, status, budget fields and participants
  • List and inspect stories (tasks) with status, due dates, assignees and checklists
  • Create new stories and update titles, descriptions or dates on existing ones
  • List logged time entries and timesheet submissions, filtered by workspace, user or date range
  • Log time against a workspace or a specific story
When to use it
Useful when a team runs projects and tasks in Kantata OX and wants an assistant to answer questions about open workspaces, upcoming tasks and logged hours, or to create tasks and record time without opening the app.
Requirements
Remote MCP endpoint, no local install. Sign-in is via OAuth; on first connect you supply a Kantata OX OAuth token copied from the Kantata settings, and the server stores it per user. Needs a paid Kantata OX account with the Account Administrator role. No API key or Authorization header goes in the client config.
Before you install
The server asks for a Kantata OX OAuth token, which grants access to your Kantata data; it is stored server-side per user. Three tools write data: creating a story, updating a story and logging time each change Kantata records, and logging time creates a new entry per call, so blind retries can duplicate entries. Usage is metered: the free plan allows 50 tool calls a month, and paid plans are billed through a Stripe checkout link returned by the upgrade tool.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Kantata MCP by usefulapi in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.usefulapi%2Fkantata/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

Kantata MCP by usefulapi

Use your Kantata account from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client. Read workspaces, tasks and time entries, create and update tasks, and log time. Hosted, no local install: connect with your own credentials.

Live endpoint: https://kantata.usefulapi.io/mcp · Homepage: https://usefulapi.io

Connect

  • Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste https://kantata.usefulapi.io/mcp.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http kantata https://kantata.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run /mcp to log in.
  • VS Code: Add to VS Code.
  • Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
json
{  "mcpServers": {    "kantata": {      "url": "https://kantata.usefulapi.io/mcp"    }  }}

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and the login page asks for your Kantata credentials.

Step-by-step setup, where to find your credentials, and FAQ: https://usefulapi.io/kantata/

On first connect you provide a Kantata OX OAuth token, which you copy from Settings → API → Registered Applications → Show OAuth Token. It needs a paid Kantata OX account and the Account Administrator role. The server validates it and stores it per user. No keys go in config files.
