Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted MCP server for NS1 Connect managed DNS: read zones, records, monitors, data feeds and usage, and create or update a single DNS record.

What you can do
  • List and inspect DNS zones, records and search across zones and records by name.
  • Review monitoring jobs, notifier lists, data sources and their feeds.
  • Check account summary, query usage, current QPS and billing-cycle record and query usage.
  • Create one new plain DNS record or update one existing record's answers or TTL.
  • Check the monthly tool-call meter, request a missing feature, or manage a Pro subscription.
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to answer questions about an NS1 Connect account — which zones exist, how a record is configured, how much traffic a zone gets — or to make a single plain record change without opening the NS1 console.
Requirements
Remote endpoint at ns1.usefulapi.io; no local install. Sign-in is by OAuth, and the login page asks for your NS1 Connect credentials. Add only the URL to the client config, with no Authorization header or API key. A free plan allows 50 tool calls per month; paid plans raise the limit.
Before you install
The create and update tools change live DNS immediately, and a wrong answer can take a site or mail offline; confirm before running them. Updates that supply answers replace the whole answer set. The service is a third-party host that signs in to your NS1 account, so it can read your DNS configuration. Paid plans cost money and are billed through a checkout link; cancellation runs to the end of the paid period with no refund.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open NS1 Connect MCP by usefulapi in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.usefulapi%2Fns1/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

NS1 MCP by usefulapi

Use NS1 from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client — zones, records, monitoring jobs, data sources and feeds, usage, QPS and billing, plus single-record writes. Hosted, no local install: connect with your own NS1 credentials.

Live endpoint: https://ns1.usefulapi.io/mcp · Homepage: https://usefulapi.io/ns1

Connect

  • Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste https://ns1.usefulapi.io/mcp.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http ns1 https://ns1.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run /mcp to log in.
  • VS Code: Add to VS Code.
  • Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
json
{  "mcpServers": {    "ns1": {      "url": "https://ns1.usefulapi.io/mcp"    }  }}

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and the login page asks for your NS1 Connect credentials.

Parametersafterlimitoffset

ns1_get_zone

Get zone

One zone with its settings and its record list (each record: domain, type, TTL, short answers, linked/tier info). Large zones are paged: if next_page is not null, call again with its after/offset to get the next records. TSIG secrets are redacted. GET /v1/zones/{zone}.

Parameterszonerequiredafterlimitoffset

ns1_get_record

Get record

One DNS record by zone, domain and type: TTL, answers (with per-answer metadata), filter chain (traffic steering), linked record and region settings. GET /v1/zones/{zone}/{domain}/{type}.

Parameterstyperequiredzonerequireddomainrequired

ns1_list_monitoring_jobs

List monitoring jobs

List the account's NS1 monitoring jobs (health checks that feed traffic steering): id, name, type, regions, frequency, rules, current status, active flag and notify list id. Request header values and credentials are redacted. GET /v1/monitoring/jobs.

Takes no parameters.

ns1_get_monitoring_job

Get monitoring job

One monitoring job by id with its configuration, rules, regions and status. Header values and credentials are redacted. GET /v1/monitoring/jobs/{id}.

Parametersjob_idrequired

ns1_list_notify_lists

List notifier lists

List the notifier lists that monitoring alerts are sent to: id, name and the notifier types and labels (email, Slack, PagerDuty, webhook). Notifier settings (webhook URLs, tokens, service keys, addresses) are redacted. GET /v1/lists.

Takes no parameters.

ns1_list_data_sources

List data sources

List the data sources (connections to third-party monitoring or custom push sources used for traffic steering): id, name, source type, status and their feeds. Connection settings and credentials are redacted. GET /v1/data/sources.

ns1_create_record

Create DNS record

WRITE: creates ONE new DNS record and CHANGES LIVE DNS for that name as soon as NS1 serves it; a wrong answer can take a site or mail offline. Plain records only (A, AAAA, ALIAS, CAA, CNAME, MX, PTR, SRV, TXT; no NS/SOA, no traffic-steering filters or metadata). Refuses when the record already exists (use ns1_update_record). Answers are lists of rdata fields: A ["192.0.2.10"], MX [10, "mail.example.com."], TXT ["v=spf1 -all"], SRV [10, 5, 5060, "sip.example.com."], CAA [0, "issue", "letsencrypt.org"]. PUT /v1/zones/{zone}/{domain}/{type}.

Parametersttltyperequiredzonerequireddomainrequiredanswersrequired

ns1_update_record

Update DNS record

WRITE: changes ONE existing DNS record and CHANGES LIVE DNS for that name immediately. Giving answers REPLACES all current answers of the record (send the complete new set); giving only ttl changes just the TTL. Plain records only (A, AAAA, ALIAS, CAA, CNAME, MX, PTR, SRV, TXT): when answers are given, a record that uses traffic-steering filters, links or per-answer metadata is refused (edit it in the NS1 portal). Fails if the record does not exist. POST /v1/zones/{zone}/{domain}/{type}.
