Overview

AI-generated overview

Connects an assistant to a Parsley account to read menu items, nutrition, allergens, ingredients and events, and to record event sales and waste.

What you can do
  • List and read menu items with nutrition, allergens, dietary flags and ingredients
  • List and read menus with their sections, items and serving stations
  • List and read ingredients with unit conversions, suppliers and costing
  • List and read events in a date window, with their line items
  • List serving stations, chef tags and chef users
  • Create events, set covers, and record sales, waste and leftovers
When to use it
Useful for kitchens, caterers and food-service teams already running Parsley who want to ask about allergens, nutrition, menus and the event calendar in chat, or push sales and waste figures back into Parsley without opening the app.
Requirements
Remote MCP endpoint reached over streamable HTTP; no local package. Sign-in is by OAuth, and on first connect you paste a Parsley API key generated in your Parsley account, which must have the Open API enabled. Add only the URL, with no Authorization header or API key in the client config.
Before you install
The Parsley API key is a credential and acts with the permissions of the user who created it. Four tools write to the account: creating an event is not idempotent and can duplicate production plans, and sales and waste pushes overwrite rather than add. Usage is metered: 50 calls a month free, then paid Pro or Pro+ plans bought through a Stripe checkout link, with no refund for the current period on cancel.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Parsley MCP by usefulapi in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.usefulapi%2Fparsley/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Connect

  • Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste https://parsley.usefulapi.io/mcp.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http parsley https://parsley.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run /mcp to log in.
  • VS Code: Add to VS Code.
  • Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
json
{  "mcpServers": {    "parsley": {      "url": "https://parsley.usefulapi.io/mcp"    }  }}

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and the login page asks for your Parsley credentials.

Step-by-step setup, where to find your credentials, and FAQ: https://usefulapi.io/parsley/

On first connect you'll paste a Parsley API key, generated in your Parsley account (the Open API is switched on per account; if you do not see API keys, ask Parsley support at [email protected]). The key acts with the permissions of the user who created it. Your credentials are validated, stored per-user, and scoped to you — no keys in config files.

parsley_list_menu_items

List menu items

List the recipes, sub-recipes and ingredients in the Parsley account that can be used on events: id, name, item number, price, tags, active flag, chef and last-modified time. Use the ids with parsley_get_menu_item for nutrition, allergens and ingredients, and on events. The API returns the whole list at once; search/limit/offset slice it here. GET /menu_items.

Parameterstagtypelimitoffsetsearch

parsley_get_menu_item

Get menu item (nutrition, allergens, ingredients)

One menu item in full: names, description, price, cost, shelf life, serving size, nutrition facts (nutrients), the allergen flags and allergen text, dietary characteristics (meat, pork, corn, poultry) and the ingredient list. The photo link is returned without its access token. GET /menu_items/{id}.

Parametersmenu_item_idrequired

parsley_list_menus

List menus

List the menus (menu plans) in the account: id, name and last-modified time. Use the id with parsley_get_menu or when creating an event. GET /menus.

Parameterslimitoffsetsearch

parsley_get_menu

Get menu

One menu with its sections and the menu items in each section, and its serving stations. GET /menus/{id}.

Parametersmenu_idrequired

parsley_list_ingredients

List ingredients

List the ingredients that can be used in recipes: id, parent id, name, label name, item number, supported units, and whether a recipe uses it. The API returns the whole list at once; search/limit/offset slice it here. GET /ingredients.

Parameterslimitoffsetsearchused_by_recipe

parsley_get_ingredient

Get ingredient (costing and suppliers)

One ingredient in full: unit conversions, supported units, tags, the supply options (supplier, SKU, pack size, cost) used for costing and the preparations with yield. Parsley limits this call to 1 request every 3 seconds, so fetch ingredients one at a time. GET /ingredients/{id}.

Parametersingredient_idrequired

parsley_list_events

List events

List events (a workday, shift, service or catering event) that fall in a date window: id, name, type (standard, cafe-hot-bar, sale, forecast), date, start and end time, menu id. A bare date means the whole day in the account timezone. GET /events.

Parametersendrequiredtypelimitstartrequiredoffsetsearch

parsley_get_event

Get event

One event with its metadata and all line items (menu item, amount, unit, station, section). GET /events/{id}.

Parametersevent_idrequired

parsley_list_serving_stations

List serving stations

List the serving stations (id, name) that menu items and event line items can be assigned to. GET /tags/serving_stations.

Parameterslimitoffset

parsley_list_chef_tags

List chef tags

List the chef tags (id, name) that recipes are attributed to. Only meaningful for accounts with Chef IDs enabled. GET /tags/chefs.

Parameterslimitoffset

parsley_list_chef_users

List chef users

List the chef users of the account: id, email, join date, active flag, permission level and the chef tag they are tied to. Only meaningful for accounts with Chef IDs enabled. GET /users/chefs.

Parameterslimitoffsetsearch

parsley_create_event

Create event

WRITE: create an event (a workday, shift, service or catering event) in Parsley with its menu items. This changes the account's production plan and is NOT idempotent: calling it twice creates two events. Returns the new event id. Use parsley_list_events first to avoid duplicates. POST /events.

Parametersdaterequirednamerequiredtyperequiredmenu_idprivateend_timeline_itemsrequiredstart_timedescription

parsley_update_event_covers

Update event covers

WRITE: set the forecast and/or actual number of covers (guests served) on an event. Only the fields you pass change. actual_covers works only on cafe/hot bar events. Setting the same values again has no further effect. PATCH /events/{id}.

Parametersevent_idrequiredactual_coversforecast_covers

parsley_record_event_sales

Record event sales

WRITE: push sold quantities per menu item to a cafe/hot bar event, which feeds Parsley's cost and usage reports. Other event types are refused by Parsley, as is a menu item with no made quantity on the event. Sending the same quantities again overwrites rather than adds. PUT /events/{id}/sales.

Parameterssalesrequiredevent_idrequired

parsley_record_waste_leftover

Record waste and leftover

WRITE: push waste and/or leftover quantities per menu item to a cafe/hot bar event. If no sold quantity exists, Parsley derives it as made minus waste minus leftover. Parsley refuses amounts above what was made minus sold. Sending the same quantities again overwrites rather than adds. PUT /events/{id}/waste_leftover.
