Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted Quarterwise server that lets an assistant read UK property and business ledgers and add income or expense entries.

What you can do
  • Check the account, plan and API capabilities
  • List properties, overseas properties and self-employment businesses with shares and roles
  • List valid HMRC income and expense category keys per source type
  • List a source's transactions, optionally by date range, with cursor paging
  • Add 1 to 100 income or expense entries to a ledger, with idempotent external references
  • Report usage, request features, upgrade or cancel the subscription
When to use it
Useful if you keep UK property or self-employment books in Quarterwise and want an assistant to review transactions, look up HMRC category keys, or bulk-add expenses and income from a conversation. Filing to HMRC is not supported; that stays in the app.
Requirements
A remote MCP endpoint reached over HTTP; no local install. A Quarterwise account and an API key created in the app under Account, API access, entered at OAuth sign-in rather than in the client config. A paid plan is needed beyond the free tier's 50 tool calls per month.
Before you install
The add-transactions tool writes to your ledger; confirm entries before running it. Entries without a category land in a review queue. Upgrade returns a Stripe Checkout link and paid plans cost money, with no refund for the current period on cancellation. The API key is stored per user by the hosted service.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Quarterwise MCP by usefulapi in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.usefulapi%2Fquarterwise/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

Quarterwise MCP by usefulapi

Use your Quarterwise account from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client. Read your properties, businesses, HMRC category keys and transactions, and add income and expense entries to a ledger. Hosted, no local install: connect with your own credentials.

Live endpoint: https://quarterwise.usefulapi.io/mcp · Homepage: https://usefulapi.io

Connect

  • Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste https://quarterwise.usefulapi.io/mcp.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http quarterwise https://quarterwise.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run /mcp to log in.
  • VS Code: Add to VS Code.
  • Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
json
{  "mcpServers": {    "quarterwise": {      "url": "https://quarterwise.usefulapi.io/mcp"    }  }}

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and the login page asks for your Quarterwise credentials.

Step-by-step setup, where to find your credentials, and FAQ: https://usefulapi.io/quarterwise/

On first connect you provide a Quarterwise API key. Create it in the Quarterwise app under Account → API access. The server validates it and stores it per user. No keys go in config files.

quarterwise_get_account

Get account and API capabilities

Show which Quarterwise account the key belongs to, its plan (free, pro, expat, firm) and what the API can do. HMRC submission is always false: filing is done in the app. API: GET /api/v1/me.

Takes no parameters.

quarterwise_list_sources

List properties and businesses

List the income sources on the account: UK properties, overseas properties and self-employment businesses, with id, type, share percent, role (owner or sharer) and transaction count. The id is the input of the transaction tools. API: GET /api/v1/sources.

Takes no parameters.

quarterwise_list_categories

List HMRC category keys

List the valid income and expense category keys (HMRC field names) per source type. Keys differ by type, so check them before adding transactions. API: GET /api/v1/categories.

Parameterssource_type

quarterwise_list_transactions

List transactions of a source

List income and expense entries of one property or business, optionally in a date range. Amounts are in pence. Returns nextCursor: pass it as cursor to get the next page. API: GET /api/v1/sources/{id}/transactions.

Parameterstofromlimitcursorsource_idrequired

quarterwise_add_transactions

Add transactions to a source (write)

WRITE: add 1 to 100 income or expense entries to a property or business ledger. Each entry needs a unique externalRef: re-posting the same ref adds nothing, so a retry is safe. Entries without a category go to the review queue in the app. Never submits anything to HMRC. API: POST /api/v1/sources/{id}/transactions.
