Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted WeFile server that lets an assistant list UK companies and filings, draft and save CT600 returns, generate documents, and submit to HMRC and Companies…

What you can do
  • List workspace companies and their accounting periods, with HMRC and Companies House due dates
  • Add a UK company by its Companies House number
  • List filings and submissions, and poll the latest accept or reject status
  • List and generate filing documents such as accounts, tax computation and CT600
  • Create, save and submit CT600 and Companies House filings, including amendments
  • Remove stored gateway credentials, check usage, request features and manage the subscription
When to use it
Useful for UK accountants or company owners who want an assistant to prepare and file CT600 returns and statutory accounts, check what is due, and track submission results without leaving the chat.
Requirements
Remote endpoint at wefile.usefulapi.io over streamable HTTP; no local install. Sign-in is by OAuth, and on first connect you supply a WeFile API key from the WeFile developer dashboard, which needs the Developer Package. No keys go in client config. HMRC gateway id, gateway password and Companies House code are needed for submission.
Before you install
Submitting with a live key files a real return with HMRC and Companies House, so confirm figures and try a test key first. Gateway credentials are passed per submission call. Write tools add companies, create and save filings, and delete stored credentials. Paid plans are billed through a Stripe checkout link, and the free plan is capped at 50 calls a month.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open WeFile MCP by usefulapi in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.usefulapi%2Fwefile/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

WeFile MCP by usefulapi

Use your WeFile account from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client. It lists companies and filings, creates and saves CT600 drafts, generates documents, and submits filings to HMRC and Companies House. Hosted, no local install: connect with your own credentials.

Live endpoint: https://wefile.usefulapi.io/mcp · Homepage: https://usefulapi.io

Connect

  • Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste https://wefile.usefulapi.io/mcp.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http wefile https://wefile.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run /mcp to log in.
  • VS Code: Add to VS Code.
  • Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
json
{  "mcpServers": {    "wefile": {      "url": "https://wefile.usefulapi.io/mcp"    }  }}

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and the login page asks for your WeFile credentials.

Step-by-step setup, where to find your credentials, and FAQ: https://usefulapi.io/wefile/

On first connect you provide your WeFile API key (in the WeFile developer dashboard under API Access; it needs the Developer Package). The server validates it and stores it per user. No keys go in config files.

ParameterscompanyNumberrequired

wefile_list_filings

Parameterspagelimitsearchstatus

wefile_get_filing_status

Get filing status

Get the overall status of a filing and its submission history. WeFile polls HMRC and Companies House first, so the result shows the latest accept or reject. Use it after wefile_submit_filing. WeFile API: GET /filing/status.

ParametersfilingIdrequired

wefile_list_submissions

List submissions

List the submissions made for a filing to HMRC and Companies House, with their status, HMRC IRmark and body hash. Does not poll the agencies; use wefile_get_filing_status for that. WeFile API: GET /filing/submissions.

ParametersfilingIdrequired

wefile_list_documents

List documents

List the documents WeFile can generate for a filing (accounts, tax computation, CT600), with whether each is available now. WeFile stores no documents; generate them with wefile_generate_document. WeFile API: GET /filing/document/list.

ParametersfilingIdrequired

wefile_generate_document

Generate document

Generate one filing document from the saved filing data. PDFs come back as base64 text and iXBRL as HTML. Results over 200,000 characters are cut and marked truncated. Filings over 12 months need subPeriod 1 or 2. WeFile API: GET /filing/document/generate.

ParameterstyperequiredfilingIdrequiredsubPeriod

wefile_create_filing

Create filing

Create a draft CT600 and Companies House filing for one company and accounting period. Nothing is sent to HMRC or Companies House yet. For an amendment of a WeFile filing, set isAmendment and amendmentOfFilingId. For an amendment of a return filed elsewhere, set isAmendment only: the draft starts empty. WeFile API: POST /filing/create.

wefile_save_filing

Save filing

Save the figures and settings of a draft filing. Set profitLossData and balanceSheetData from the figures the user gives; WeFile computes the totals and the tax. Status in_progress starts the payment step. Send the gateway password and the Companies House code only to wefile_submit_filing. Required: filingTypes, before submit. WeFile API: POST /filing/save.

wefile_delete_filing_credentials

Delete stored credentials

Remove the stored HMRC gateway id, gateway password and Companies House code from a filing. Other fields stay. Refused while a submission is in flight. WeFile API: POST /filing/credentials/delete.

ParametersfilingIdrequired

wefile_submit_filing

Submit filing

Send a filing to HMRC, Companies House or both. A live key (wf_live_) files a real return, so confirm the figures first; try a test key (wf_test_) before a live one. Pass the gateway credentials here for this call only: WeFile uses them once and does not store them. Check the result with wefile_get_filing_status. WeFile API: POST /filing/submit.
