Overview

AI-generated overview

AgentReader is a remote MCP server that reads web pages and PDFs and returns clean Markdown or JSON, plus web search, using prepaid credits.

What you can do
  • Read a web page or PDF and get only its main content as compact Markdown or JSON, with JavaScript rendering, cookie/consent walls and PDFs handled
  • Extract specific structured fields such as title or price from a page
  • Search the web for a ranked list of titles, URLs and snippets, then read the best results
  • Check remaining free calls and prepaid credits for the connected key, and see available credit bundles
  • Report a failed or wrong-looking read back to the service for fixing
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs the readable text of pages that a plain fetch handles badly: JavaScript-rendered sites, consent walls, PDFs, or very large pages where raw HTML wastes tokens. Also handy when you want search plus clean page reading in one place.
Requirements
Remote endpoint at agentreader.xyz over streamable HTTP; no local install. An optional API key is sent as an Authorization Bearer header, or as an api_key query parameter in the connection URL for clients that cannot set headers. Reads beyond the free daily calls are paid through prepaid credits bought as card packs or via crypto/x402.
Before you install
Reads and searches consume free daily calls and then paid prepaid credits; buying credits costs money ($3 or $10 packs plus VAT where applicable). The API key is a secret, and a connection URL containing it should be treated like a password. Reported issues store the URL without its query string, the reason and your note for 90 days, so avoid personal data in notes. Pages that are bot-blocked or paywalled return an error rather than content.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open AgentReader in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/xyz.agentreader%2Fagentreader/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Read URL / web page / PDF to Markdown

Read a web page or PDF with AgentReader (agentreader.xyz) and return only its main content as clean Markdown (default) or JSON. Prefer this over a plain fetch when the page is JavaScript-rendered, behind a cookie/consent wall, a PDF, or large (raw HTML can be 20x the tokens). If the site blocks bots or is paywalled you get a clear error, are not charged, and should move on instead of retrying URL variants. Renders JavaScript with headless Chromium when needed and keeps code blocks verbatim. JSON adds title, author, date, links and tables. News homepages return headline lists, RSS/Atom feeds return items, mode=full returns the whole page. JSON URLs (APIs, e.g. datasets-server.huggingface.co) come back pretty-printed in a ```json block, or as parsed `data` with format=json; plain-text and Markdown files (.txt, .md, raw.githubusercontent.com) are returned cleaned; CSV (text/csv, .csv) comes back in a ```csv block, with parsed rows as `data`/`tables` when cheap. Images, audio, video, archives and office files get HTTP 415 (not charged). StackOverflow, npm and PyPI are read via their official APIs. Results with very little text carry meta.warning; if a result looks wrong, call report_issue. Pricing: 5 free reads/day without an API key; then credits on a key, which comes from a card pack your user buys at https://agentreader.xyz/buy ($3 for 2,000 reads or $10 for 7,000 reads + VAT where applicable) or from a crypto bundle (POST https://agentreader.xyz/v1/credits/buy?bundle=500, x402). Send the key as Authorization: Bearer <key> (apps that can't set headers: connect to https://agentreader.xyz/mcp?api_key=<key>). Or pay $0.005/read via x402 in the tool call.
