Governs Azure costs using budgets, alerts, tags, and policy guardrails.
- What it does
- This skill provides instructions for checking Azure budget health, configuring budgets, and reviewing cost guardrails. It covers budget status checks, budget creation with confirmed scope, amount, thresholds, and recipients, and policy-based restrictions such as allowed VM SKUs and regions. It also defines error handling for access failures, missing budget or forecast data, multiple currencies, write conflicts, and server errors.
- When to use it
- Use it for Azure budget health, configured budget overruns, listing or creating Azure budgets, budget alerts and coverage, missing CostCenter tags, allowed VM SKUs or regions, and cost guardrail questions. It is not intended for planning-target forecasts, bill investigations, pricing, rightsizing, or commitments.
- Requirements
- Requires access to Azure cost management MCP tools (such as list_budgets, forecast_costs, query_costs, list_alerts, and create_budget) and Azure Resource Graph for guardrails. Write operations need a confirmed scope, amount, thresholds, and recipients. It ships no scripts; it is instructions only, with reference documents for budget health, budget setup, guardrails, and tool fallback.

Quick Reference
When to Use This Skill
Use for budgets, alerts, tags, and policy.
MCP Tools
Use cost tools for budgets; Resource Graph for guardrails. Writes need
confirmed scope, amount, thresholds, and recipients. Fallback:
API mappings [blocked].
Workflow
- Confirm scope and load the matching workflow.
- Never transform MCP results in a shell or interpreter; request tool-side
filtering or bounded follow-up queries.
- Distinguish access failures from empty results.
- Report gaps without implying budgets cap spend.
