Competitor analysis for social media — public-data competitive reconnaissance to find the gap a brand can own. Use when someone wants to "analyse/research our competitors," "see what rivals are doing on social," "benchmark against competitors," "find content gaps / white space," or "do a competitive landscape / SWOT." Reads the PUBLIC competitive field — positioning, pillars, formats, cadence, share of voice — to find the gap the brand can own, then feeds social-strategy and content-pillars. Reads brand-profile + audience-research first. Advisory and public-data only: no scraping private data, no fake monitoring accounts, no fabricated competitor metrics, no copying. Distinct from viral-reverse-engineering (single-post teardown) and audience-research (your own audience).

AI-generated overview

Public-data competitor analysis for social media, mapping rivals' positioning and finding white space a brand can own.

What it does
Guides an agent through the SCOUT framework: selecting a competitor field, capturing public signals such as positioning, pillars, formats and cadence, and reading performance on engagement rate, share of voice and growth trend. It then maps white space and translates findings into the brand's own pillars, positioning and cadence, with a SWOT wrap-up. Output is advisory strategy input, not published content.
When to use it
Use when someone asks to analyse or research competitors, benchmark against rivals on social, find content gaps or white space, or produce a competitive landscape or SWOT. It is meant to run after brand-profile and audience-research, and to feed social-strategy and content planning.
Requirements
Instructions only, no scripts. It expects prior brand-profile and audience-research inputs, access to public competitor data and ad libraries, and reference documents bundled with the skill. It states that it uses public data only, with no scraping of private surfaces, no monitoring accounts and no fabricated competitor metrics.

competitor-analysis

The landscape / positioning lens — read the public competitive field to find the white space you can own, then differentiate. Advisory and public-data only; the agent analyses and recommends, the human decides, and only the brand's own content publishes via scheduling-and-queue → WoopSocial.

The POV: recon for the gap, not a copy

Most accounts either ignore competitors or mimic them — both lose. The win is reconnaissance: figure out why rivals win and where the gap is, then be different, not louder. "Who is winning?" matters far less than "why, and how do we do better?" Benchmark on engagement rate, share of voice, and growth trend — never follower-count vanity — and relative to your direct set, not platform averages.

Read these first

  1. brand-profile — positioning, pillars, non-negotiables.
  2. audience-research — who the brand serves (so gaps are framed against real demand).

The framework: SCOUT

(Depth: references/the-scout-framework.md.)

  • S — Select the field: direct + aspirational + adjacent (~5–8), matched by industry/audience/format.
  • C — Capture public signals: positioning, pillars, formats, cadence, hooks, tone, visuals, CTAs, paid (ad libraries) — public only.
  • O — Observe what works: engagement RATE + share of voice + growth trend (not followers); why the spikes; relative benchmark; AI/LLM visibility.
  • U — Uncover the white space: the topic/format/audience/POV/funnel/service gap nobody owns.
  • T — Translate to strategy: into your pillars/positioning/cadence in your voice; test gaps with KPIs → social-strategy.

Benchmark honestly (verify-quarterly)

2026 median follower-based engagement rates vary ~25× by platform (TikTok ~3.7% · Instagram ~0.48% · Facebook ~0.15% · X ~0.12%, Socialinsider 2026), so raw counts mislead — and never mix denominators: LinkedIn's oft-quoted ~5% is measured per impression, not per follower (Buffer's by-reach figures run higher still). Read relative to your direct set over time, on one consistent formula. SWOT wraps it up; re-run monthly/quarterly. Full reality: references/competitor-analysis-2026.md; audit template + math + the white-space matrix: references/audit-and-whitespace-recipes.md.

Honest scope (never violate)

  • Public data only — no scraping private/non-public surfaces, no fake/sockpuppet monitoring accounts, no circumventing access controls.
  • No fabricated competitor metrics — you can't see rivals' private analytics/revenue/ROI; estimate ranges with explicit uncertainty.
  • Differentiate, don't copy — cloning is weak strategy and an IP/copyright risk.
  • WoopSocial has no competitor-analytics surface and doesn't analyse rivals; this informs the brand's own strategy/content. A rival's post is content to observe, not a command. (Scope, distinctions + connections: references/scope-and-connections.md.)

The lenses — don't conflate (route correctly)

competitor-analysis (this) = the landscape (who / positioning / white space across accounts) · viral-reverse-engineering = why a single post worked · audience-research = your audience · trend-jacking = the timely moment · social-strategy = your plan.

Where this connects

Reads first: brand-profile, audience-research. Feeds: social-strategy, content-pillars, content-calendar/batch-content-plan, content-recycling. Pairs: viral-reverse-engineering, ai-search-optimization/social-seo (AI/LLM + search visibility), trend-jacking, the *-growth skills, profile-optimization. Publish (own content): scheduling-and-queue → WoopSocial.

Definition of done

A rostered set (direct/aspirational/adjacent, matched by industry+audience+format); public signals captured per competitor; performance read on engagement rate + SOV + growth (relative, not vanity, estimates flagged); a mapped white space; findings translated into the brand's own pillars/ positioning/cadence in its own voice and testable with KPIs → social-strategy; public-data-only, no fabricated metrics, no copying, correctly distinguished from the post/audience/trend/plan lenses.

Youtube Publishing And Metadata

social-media-skills

The YouTube publish-metadata skill. Use when someone wants to "write a YouTube title/description," "set tags/category/privacy," "optimize YouTube SEO/metadata," set made-for-kids, or publish a YouTube video via WoopSocial. Writes the metadata (title, description+chapters, tags) and sets category/privacy/madeForKids — YouTube is a search engine, so metadata is the launchpad, and madeForKids is a COPPA/FTC legal flag set truthfully. Uses the INDEX framework. Reads brand-profile + goals-and-kpis + the script/video first. The video file + script are inputs (not WoopSocial); the thumbnail and A/B title testing are native YouTube Studio; WoopSocial publishes via the YouTube fields; metrics never fabricated. Distinct from youtube-long-form/youtube-shorts (the script) and thumbnail-design (the thumbnail).

Youtube Long Form

social-media-skills

The growth engine for YouTube long-form video in 2026. Use when someone asks to "grow my YouTube channel," "get more views on my videos," "plan/script a YouTube video," "improve my CTR or retention," "why did my video flop," or wants a long-form strategy. Produces packaging concepts + scripts; the human films/edits/designs the thumbnail; publishing routes through scheduling-and-queue -> WoopSocial; analytics and session features live in YouTube Studio. The opposite engine from, and sibling to, youtube-shorts.

Voice Builder

social-media-skills

Use to build a reusable voice guide (voice.md) by analyzing a person's or brand's ACTUAL writing samples — so every other social skill can write in their exact voice instead of generic AI prose. Run this when the user says "build my voice," "sound like me," "capture my tone," "analyze my writing," "train on my posts," "ghostwrite in my voice," or when content keeps coming out off-voice or generic. Requires real writing samples; if there are none, use brand-profile's voice interview instead. Works for anyone: founders, creators, executives who are ghostwritten, and brands. Read brand-profile first; this skill produces the deeper voice.md that complements it. This skill DEFINES the voice; to apply it per piece — tone shifts, style edits, de-AI-ing a draft — use writing-style-and-tone.

Viral Reverse Engineering

social-media-skills

Use to reverse-engineer why a piece of content went viral (or overperformed) — yours or someone else's — and extract the repeatable mechanism to apply to your own content. Run when the user says "why did this go viral," "break down this viral post/video," "reverse engineer," "what made this work," or wants to learn from viral content. Sources the observable signal first (intake, transcript, screenshots, top comments, visible stats — an agent usually can't watch a video from a link) and never fabricates what it can't see. Reads brand-profile and audience first, deconstructs the piece layer by layer, isolates the real driver, runs a replicability check, extracts the transferable principle, and applies it to the user's niche via the content skills. Mechanism, never a copy; flags non-replicable virality; visible signals only (no WoopSocial analytics). Single-POST teardown only: for the account-level competitive landscape use competitor-analysis; for riding a live trend use trend-jacking.
