A remote budget-guard server that lets an assistant open a hard dollar, token, call and time cap for one agent run and reserve spend before each call.
What you can do
Open a hard budget for one agent run with dollar, token, call and time limits, returning a shared handle for sub-agents. Reserve estimated cost before each model call, tool call or sub-agent spawn, with an allowed or denied answer naming the limit that tripped. Record actual usage after a call to correct the ledger. Check spend against limits, remaining budget, stop status and recent ledger events, and close the run when finished. Draft a read-only weekly report of runs, spend and cap overruns. Show daily usage and upgrade information.
When to use it
Useful when running multi-step or multi-agent workflows where a runaway loop or fork could overspend, and you want a shared hard cap enforced across sub-agents before each call rather than discovered afterwards.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no package, environment variables or headers are declared. The free tier allows 500 calls per day, and usage is tracked by key or IP.
Before you install
The server tracks spend and usage by key or IP, and the upgrade tool points to a paid $49/month plan. Reserving deducts budget and a denied reservation means the assistant should stop and return partial results. The weekly report is read-only and sends nothing.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/com.botrecipe%2Fbudget/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.
Open a hard budget for one agent run before it starts: max dollars, tokens, calls and/or wall-clock seconds. Returns a handle. Give the handle to every sub-agent; they all draw from the same ledger, so one runaway loop or fork cannot exceed the run cap.
Call BEFORE each model call, tool call or sub-agent spawn with your estimate. Returns allowed=true and deducts it, or allowed=false with the limit that tripped. When allowed is false, stop, do not retry, and return your partial result to the user. Atomic, so parallel sub-agents cannot both slip under the cap.

record
After a call, report the actual usage minus what you reserved (positive if it cost more, negative to give back an overestimate). Keeps the ledger honest without blocking.

weekly_report
Draft a plain-English report of the last 7 days for your key (or IP): runs, spend, runs that went over their cap, and dollars spent after a cap would have stopped them. Read-only; sends nothing. Show it to your user.
Takes no parameters.
budget_status
See spend vs limits, remaining budget, whether the run is stopped and why, and the last 20 ledger events. Set close=true when the run finishes.
