Remote MCP server that lets an assistant look up public NHTSA vehicle recalls by VIN or by year, make and model, with XLSX and CSV reports.
What you can do
Check recalls for up to 50 VINs per call, decoding each VIN and returning matching vehicle recalls
Look up recalls by model year, make and model for up to 20 vehicles per call, without needing a VIN
Produce downloadable XLSX and CSV reports of the recall results
Draw on public NHTSA recall data, with a cap of 40 source requests per call
When to use it
Useful when someone wants to know whether a specific car or a whole fleet has open safety recalls, or needs a spreadsheet of recall findings for a list of VINs or vehicle models.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint; no local install, account, API key or environment variables are declared. Network access to the hosted endpoint is required.
Before you install
It only reports public NHTSA recall campaigns and does not cover VIN-specific repair status or repair booking. Each call is limited to 50 VINs or 20 vehicles and 40 source requests, so large fleets need several calls. VINs and vehicle details you submit go to the hosted service.
Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.theluckystrike%2Fvehicle-recalls/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.
Use this when the user wants a vin decoder, recall check by vin, or batch vin decoder with vehicle recalls and XLSX and CSV reports from public NHTSA data. Up to 50 VINs and 40 source requests per call; campaigns apply to the year, make and model. Do not use for VIN-specific repair status or booking repairs.
