Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted Anvil server that lets an assistant fill and generate PDFs and create Etch e-signature packets using your Anvil account.

What you can do
  • Look up the signed-in Anvil user and their organizations
  • Read organizations, PDF templates (casts), workflows (welds) and workflow submissions
  • Fill a PDF template with field data and get the finished PDF back as base64
  • Generate a new PDF from HTML or Markdown
  • Create Etch e-signature packets and generate one-time embedded signing URLs
  • Check usage, request a feature, upgrade or cancel the subscription
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to produce filled or generated PDFs and drive Anvil e-signature flows without leaving the chat, for example invoices, onboarding forms or signature tracking. It fits teams already using Anvil who want a hosted connection rather than a local install.
Requirements
A remote MCP endpoint; no local install. Sign-in uses OAuth, and the login page asks for your Anvil API key, which is validated and stored per user. Add only the endpoint URL to the client config, not an Authorization header or API key. A free plan allows 50 tool calls per month; paid plans are available.
Before you install
Write tools change Anvil data: filling and generating PDFs, creating e-signature packets and signing URLs. Creating a packet with isDraft=false and real signers sends signature-request emails, so drafts and test mode are safer while developing. The server asks for your Anvil API key at login. Meta tools can start a paid Stripe checkout or cancel a subscription, and cancellation gives no refund for the current period.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Anvil MCP by usefulapi in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.usefulapi%2Fanvil/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

Anvil MCP by usefulapi

Fill and generate PDFs and run Etch e-signature packets from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client. Hosted, no local install — connect with your Anvil API key.

Live endpoint: https://anvil.usefulapi.io/mcp · Homepage: https://usefulapi.io/anvil

Connect

  • Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste https://anvil.usefulapi.io/mcp.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http anvil https://anvil.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run /mcp to log in.
  • VS Code: Add to VS Code.
  • Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
json
{  "mcpServers": {    "anvil": {      "url": "https://anvil.usefulapi.io/mcp"    }  }}

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and the login page asks for your Anvil credentials.

Step-by-step setup, where to find your credentials, and FAQ: https://usefulapi.io/anvil/

On first connect you'll paste your Anvil API key. It's validated, stored per-user, and scoped to you.

Tools

10

anvil_current_user

Current Anvil user

Get the authenticated Anvil user (from the API key) and the organizations they belong to (eid, name, slug). Good first call to discover org slugs/eids for other tools. GraphQL query: currentUser.

Takes no parameters.

anvil_get_organization

Get organization

Fetch an Anvil organization and its PDF templates (casts) and workflows (welds). Provide either its slug or its eid (at least one is required). GraphQL query: organization.

Parameterseidslug

anvil_get_cast

Get cast (PDF template)

Fetch a cast — an Anvil PDF template — by its eid: title, version number, and whether it is a template. Use the returned eid as the cast_eid for anvil_fill_pdf. GraphQL query: cast.

Parameterseidrequired

anvil_get_etch_packet

Get Etch e-signature packet

Fetch an Etch e-signature packet by eid: its status, details URL, document group, and every signer (eid, aliasId, name, email, status, routing order). Use this to check signature progress. GraphQL query: etchPacket.

Parameterseidrequired

anvil_get_weld

Get weld (workflow)

Fetch a weld — an Anvil workflow — by eid, including its forges (the individual form steps: eid, name, slug). GraphQL query: weld.

Parameterseidrequired

anvil_get_weld_data

Get weld data (workflow submission)

Fetch a weldData record — a single submission to a weld (workflow) — by eid: completion state, test flag, and creation time. GraphQL query: weldData.

Parameterseidrequired

anvil_fill_pdf

Fill a PDF template

Fill an Anvil PDF template (cast) with data and return the finished PDF as base64. REST: POST /fill/{castEid}.pdf. Returns { filename, byteLength, pdfBase64 }. The `data` object's keys are the template's field aliases.

Parametersdatarequiredtitlecast_eidrequiredfontSizetextColor

anvil_generate_pdf

Generate a PDF from HTML or Markdown

Generate a brand-new PDF from HTML or Markdown and return it as base64. REST: POST /generate-pdf. For type=html, pass data = { html, css? }. For type=markdown, pass data = [ { label, content }, ... ]. Returns { filename, byteLength, pdfBase64 }.

Parametersdatarequiredtypetitle

anvil_create_etch_packet

Create Etch e-signature packet

Create an Etch e-signature packet (documents + signers). GraphQL mutation: createEtchPacket. IMPORTANT: isDraft defaults to true (a safe draft that sends nothing). Setting isDraft=false with real signers SENDS signature-request emails to those signers. Use isTest=true while developing.

ParametersdatanamerequiredfilesisTestisDraftsignerssignatureEmailBodysignatureEmailSubject

anvil_generate_etch_sign_url

Generate Etch signing URL

Generate a one-time embedded signing URL for a specific signer in an Etch packet (for iframe/redirect signing flows). GraphQL mutation: generateEtchSignURL. Returns { url }.
